Key points raised by the public are:


At Elephant & Castle, a new Bakerloo line station is preferred near to the existing Northern line entrance and Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre, providing an easy interchange with the Northern line and National Rail services.
The preferred location for the first station along Old Kent Road was near the junction of Old Kent Road with Dunton Road, as it is close to existing transport links and could have less impact on existing local residents during construction.
The preferred location for the second station along Old Kent Road was near the junction of Asylum Road with Old Kent Road, as it was felt that a station here would provide better distancing between stations.
The proposed Underground stations at New Cross Gate and Lewisham were both supported as they could provide good interchanges with existing transport services including local buses, London Overground, Docklands Light Railway and National Rail Services.
The Bricklayers Arms junction was the preferred location for the ventilation shaft between Elephant & Castle and Old Kent Road. The most common reason for supporting this location was that it would cause less local disruption during construction. Some residents and businesses also suggested an additional station could be provided at this location.
A ventilation shaft between New Cross Gate and Lewisham stations was supported although there was some concern on how the construction may impact local residents, businesses and traffic congestion.
The majority of respondents supported the location of the ventilation shaft at the end of the line in Lewisham.

Aside from the obvious improvement to the Old Kent Road Corridor, I struggle to see many new journey opportunities here that aren't already served by heavy rail. Is it more a focus on intra south London links?

Alleviating Lewisham overcrowding is a pretty big one.

Furthermore, it's been seen that lots of travellers don't like to use National Rail, but will happily use the tube. The number of people taking buses to Elephant and Castle, then changing for the tube when they could have got a train all along is testament to that.

Is there a likelihood of a decent amount of people from say Dartford, getting the train as far as Lewisham, and then changing onto the Bakerloo instead of going into London Bridge or Charing Cross?

Probably not; you'd go into Charing Cross and get on the Bakerloo Line there. It would impact people actually starting their journey at Lewisham. Consider Ealing Broadway: most people jump straight onto the Central Line; few people go into Paddington and change, even though their journeys could be quicker.

In transport planning, we call this an 'interchange penalty'. Generally speaking, equivalent to about 10-15 minutes of journey time for a short-distance journey in addition to the actual time spent interchanging. Therefore, people would rather spend 30 minutes on one tube, than a train journey of 10 minutes, a 5 minute interchange to get down to the tube, then another 5 minutes on the tube.

That's why my job is hard. You lot all insist on direct journey opportunities to everywhere and now the public expect it! We should adopt a Swiss model of seamless integration instead.

As someone familiar with this area, I would say this would be a great extension to the tube - the Old Kent Road area, which includes parts of north Peckham, has no real rail alternatives and is also close to some of Britain's most deprived housing areas.

Bricklayers Arms would also be an excellent location for a station, allowing interchanges to buses going further south. This is probably one of the nearest 'tube deserts' to the centre of London.
