What is your favourite class of train?

What is your favourite class of train?
Our work intranet has just been updated to a 'social' intranet. On the homepage is a quiz, asking what is your favourite class of train from the seleciton of rolling stock in our TOC. The obvious crank option - HST - won by a landslide bigger than Corbyn's mandate.
So what is your favourite class, crank and non-crank alike?

lol - a little vague of course - although haven't written anything that isn't public!
I also 'liked' pay day. Cause it's a social intranet and everything can be liked or followed

MU:456 in Southern spec. As much as I like what SWT have done with them, the old seats were far better than the new ones.

Very much a retired regular poster..... If you can say that

Loco: 67 (I loved these when they were on the Chilterns, though I think the 68's are pretty decent)
MU: 185 (If they had a few more carriages, they'd be the perfect diesel unit)

A1X Terrier is probably my favourite.
Such a sweet little engine all round.
As for electric, diesel, and MUs... I honestly can't decide. Too many interesting ones for different reasons.

Nah they've got rock hard seats, fine for a short stint such as Leeds-Manc but distinctly unpleasant for any longer such as Leeds-Liverpool. The 168s on the other hand have some of the comfiest seats around!Pilot wrote:MU: 185 (If they had a few more carriages, they'd be the perfect diesel unit)

MU: Hmm. Stuck between 185 and 220/221s. I'll go with the 220s though!
I personally do love the Pacers (at least the 142/144s that operate in the North) though, possibly the only person to do so. Yes they're old, they're flying apart, but they're such a memorable and iconic (if for the wrong reasons often) part of British rail building history.

I did vote for the 222 (surprised that Leftie prefers the 220s over them...)! Every time you get on a Meridian, you can't help but think that 'this is what the Voyagers could have been...!)

Re: What is your favourite class of train?
I have only been on a 222 once, perhaps if I used them more often I would indeed prefer them. It isn't often I hop aboard EMT trains for any real distance, so don't usually see 222s, except one time out of Sheffield towards London.JamieLei wrote:I did vote for the 222 (surprised that Leftie prefers the 220s over them...)! Re: What is your favourite class of train?
I quite like the seats on the 185s personally, they weren't even that bad when I did Carlisle - Manchester. Of course, the fold down ones are awful, but most are.Chris wrote:Nah they've got rock hard seats, fine for a short stint such as Leeds-Manc but distinctly unpleasant for any longer such as Leeds-Liverpool. Lately, I've started to develop a 'respect' for 313s. Finding out how they all work, all the mechanics and such. It has really fascinated me!
Such complex yet simple machines.
