Yet another transportation proposal...

Post by GoneWacko »

It wouldn't really endanger the mag lev seeing as it's quite impossible but it's still nice to tell

Again, a direct translation of a Dutch article...
(Kijk)
Title: Wild Plans

Almost every week we find someone who has thought of his very own plan to solve the traffic problems in major cities. We're growing so tired of it, we had actually decided not to write about it for some time. But the idea of the American Frank Randak is so wild, we couldn't stop ourself.
Randak wants to construct a cartrain. The why part is unclear. He sees the positive sides of both train and car and thinks that a combination of the two would create a supertransportation device. DualMode transportation is what it's called.
But the guy isn't planning building a trein where the cars neatly drive on and off it. No; with the Advanced Vehicle Transport (AVT) this process happens at top-speed...
Randak's website explains how it works... There are two raised lanes on either side of the tracks on which the AVT trains keep driving. (At rush hour, every eight seconds a train will pass). Shuttles pick up the cars at a departure point, where the driver typed his destination. At speeds of over 300 KM/H the shuttle overtakes the train which moves at a speed of 120 KM/H. It connects itself with the train and the car is moved onto the train over a conveyor belt. At the destination the cars get off the trains the same way.
Brilliant, wild, new, funny, smart and totally impossible

http://www.avt-train.com
Now THAT should be implemented into TE

MUAHHAHHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!

Thath dudes kinda sick. Or something. BtV: How could theth at all stop traffic problems, and how ould the cars get off the shuttle? Aso, it would demand an incredible driving skill of each driver, whith few actually have....

I'm against ... those trains will not have huge capacity and it would take much money, time, and space to build, and remember that we need to lower number of cars NOT make it higher
what are you looking at? it's a signature!

Trains running in a vacuum?
Sure - they'd go faster, but what if something went wrong...

And how should they breethe in the vakuum?

I assume the trains would be airtight and self contained with air tanks.

Hahaa....how would you breath?
Never heard of an aircraft?

No really...they will build a good security system...if anything goes wrong, they will need to pump in air really fast. But in a vacuum tunnel, trains would go really really fast. You're in and out in notime.

Anyways...this is some really nifty thingie. They wanted to do something similar in Holland, I can't remember any details though.

-Especially like the art page of that site :P

There wouldn't be enough time, all the passenger would explode the moment the pressure dropped. :D

Still, it's not the worst idea, I've thought of the same thing myself, running maglev trains in vacuum tubes.

Yikes, what a bizzare idea! I think I'll keep catching the bus for now... (Speaking of which, my bus comes in 50 minutes, so I have plenty of time - 35 minutes here, 5 minutes to shower, get dressed and put my shoes on, as well as cleaning ones teeth, eating breakfast and locking up the house, and 5 minutes to walk to the bus stop). Sounds good.

you clearly didn't read my translated article...

the car simply drives on the shuttle over the on-ramps the article tells you about, and the shuttle will get up to the train automaticly (I know it doesn't say that anywhere but it's obvious enough)
