My favorite locomotive is the Central Pacific 4-4-0 "American" type "Jupiter". This locomotive is best remembered for starring in the golden spike ceremony.

Location where the golden spike was driven is in Promontory Summit, Utah. Glad to hear you learned something new. :)

Went to York one day, Saw Mallard and Flying Scotsman in the National Railway museum, then waiting in the station for our train back to Stevenage, and the City Of Truro pulls in. 3 of my favorites in one day! :D
My favorite diesel has to be the Virgin Voyager.
Im not sure about my favorite Electric. Probably the Eurostar (Euro Tunnel and GNER livery)
Man, this did not age well....
Needless to say, my favourite locos/engines have changed a fair bit over the years!

Favourite steam loco:
P-Class or a A1 Terrier. I feel the little engines are a bit underappreciated.

Favourite diesel loco:
Class 68. Do love how slick they look!

Favourite electric loco:
Class 91. A classic for me.

Favourite EMU:
Class 313. I miss driving them :P Classic!

Favourite DMU:
... Can't decide. The old Class 221 voyagers use to be but.. eh. Not sure these days.

Hmmm, I guess I could give this a go myself.

Favourite steam loco:
Meh, they're all glorified kettles, should be used for making me a brew!

Favourite diesel loco:
Class 68 for me - the noise, the power, the feeling them thumping in your chest and they depart on a high power setting. Love it.

Favourite electric loco:
Class 87. Think this is a nostalgia thing for me. Don't remember them in passenger action, but remember them on the mail when I was a kid. Had my first haulage off one in Paddington in 2018, and so far the only time!

Favourite DMU:
Hmmmm, tough one. I may be slightly biased but the Class 168s are lovely DMUs, so either them or the 185s. (Or, on the nostalgia front again, the Pacers!)

Favourite EMU:
I'm gonna go a bit bland here and go for the Class 350s. They're good all round EMUs, and when looked after, are great passenger experience wise IMO. Used to love them on TPE - except for their size. Far too small!

Wow 14 yrs eh?

68's are my absolute favourite.

The only dodgy choice by your 2006 self, has to be the voyagers. Bluegh!

Honestly, ВЛ10 is the last thing I would call nice loco, but I always liked this thing in my youth:

VL 10. He's such a lamp-like, Soviet hard worker. In his green skin.
I'm not saying it's technically good or successful.

So, having spent the last year and a half with a weekly(-ish) commute on them, my Voyager opinion has changed slightly.

When not too busy, they're alright trains. They ride fairly well, they're comfortable enough, and for a diesel unit with underfloor engines, they're relatively smooth and quiet.

They still stink of the toilet, and are wayyyy too small for the work they do these days, but the DfT aren't likely to do anything about that any time soon!

Only really used the 185s. Nice trains.
Although Lner's Azumas are alright. Don't really like their appearance but over the last year they have grown on me, the seats are very comfortable, and in my opinion much better than the InterCity 225s (they are still nice trains although are showing their age).
As for steam trains they have always piqued my interest but I have never been near one.

I must say.. my buttock disagrees with you there
Cannot stand class 800 ironing board seats. mk3's and 4's I felt you could sink into a bit and had some padding.

I done an 80x run from London to Truro a couple of years ago and ended up so uncomfortable and achy barely 15 minutes after leaving the station. So much so, I booked the sleeper back the moment I arrived in Truro

However, I will agree that they are certainly much smoother journey. Lack of decent luggage rack space does baffle me however.

I don't think I really have one favorite; it's more a bunch of different ones and depends on my mood. But certainly the German E94 is up there. Everyone loves the Swiss SBB Ce 6/8 II which I can understand (I do too), but I kinda like this one a little bit better.
