Alpinea, the Screenshot-Worthy Co-op Server

Post by SimYouLater »

About the Server
Since my desktop will not be usable until the end of October, Alpinea will remain a single-player experience until I can put the server online. In the meantime, I will build up the money that the company has at it's disposal so that new beautification projects won't have to wait for ugly low-bid transport projects to make money.

The project will have a story that evolves with the game progression, much like the original Alpinea. I've realized that I wasn't doing my previous "Return to Alpinea" in a similar fashion, so I opted to start from scratch and try again one more time.

Gaslamp, Alpinea

My home, Gaslamp by Oliver Kind
Painted from a hot air balloon, the work of child prodigy Oliver Kind shows the streetcar network that had been constructed over the months leading up to the painting's completion. It includes both the Gaslamp Streetcar Works (three stations) and the ART Cargo Service line to a nearby fruit orchard.

Gaslamp, Alpinea
Hometown by Oliver Kind
15 years after the original, Oliver Kind painted this picture from a hot air balloon, showing the expansions and changes that had taken place since. The image shows the wagonway and the expanded Eastroad Market Station, the city Streetcar line and the Industrial Tramway built to transport fresh fruit from the nearby orchard to the Eastroad Market.

Kom, Alpinea
The Little Town That Could by Oliver Kind
Kom is one of the two termini of the Gaslamp Wagonway. This painting was created to illustrate the town, which had become quite profitable for Alpinean Royal Transport due to it's heavy industrial presence.

Bricksburg, Alpinea
L’immobilier by Jacques Briques Mortier
A local artist in Bricksburg who claimed Oliver Kind's style was simplistic and had not improved with time, Jacques offered to paint the city for half the price offered to Kind with identical quality, and might have actually succeeded. The painting, done by sketching out a map of Bricksburg on the ground and inking over it, shows that a hot air balloon was unnecessary for getting an aerial view of a town.

Small Town, Big Ambitions by Jacques Briques Mortier
Painted in the rivalry between the relatively unknown J.B. Mortier and the locally famous entrepreneur Oliver Kind, this painting was done entirely using a map of Gaslamp and a

Bricksburg
The Big Brick by O. Kind
Painted using methods similar to that of J.B. Mortier, this landscape painting of Bricksburg was made after Kind went on a trip to the neighbouring city. The sheer size of Bricksburg means the task was likely not an easy one.

Kiloude City
Kiloude by Jacques Briques Mortier
Jacques new patron commissioned a landscape painting of Kiloude City, home of the new terminus of the ART Wagonway. Paintings of cities had fallen out of vogue in Alpinea by this point, and the painting is mostly a footnote in art textbooks at Alpinean universities.

Gaslamp Cave-In!
Royal Estate nearly destroyed by catastrophic collapse of wine cellars!
Image

Local officials say the wine cellars of the Royal Estate were flooded by an underground aquifer, and promptly collapsed. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but several people were seriously injured.

If anyone is reading this, please let me know!

December 13th, 1745
The rainy season in Alpinea has led to the caved-in area north of the Royal Estate filling with pools of water, as seen in this hand-inked image from the local newspaper, the Gaslamp Courier.

Unfortunately, my Windows 10 PC with the saved game was infected by malware. I had to do a reset to factory default to get rid of it (both Avast and Malwarebytes couldn't find it) and lost Alpinea, so it looks like I'm done with screenshots for a while. Sorry, everyone!
