NCommander's Screenshots

Post by NCommander »

Recently got back into playing OpenTTD and been playing on the Reddit FIRS/daylength server. Thought I'd share some screenshots and stories.

Currently, we're playing as Waterway Engineering, the primer water shipping experts. Originally named for shipping fish inland with our innovative feeder services, Waterway has expanded heavily into connecting ship to train transit systems.

Our primary port is currently on the inline Lome cove, near the scenic, if unfortunately named Cockburn City.
Over 20 ships zip across Lome bay every minute of every day, and we've worked out trade agreements with other companies to ship their products to you faster and cheaper. Lome Port is also home of our first Roll-In, Rotate Out loop, allowing trains visiting the port to exit in any direction.Image
Several miles away, a fleet of fishing barges help bring fresh fish to your door on a daily basis. Our patented airship technology help us survey new waterways to expand our services!Image
Since we begin serving the southern sector, we've seen loads of expansion. Some of the older generations may remember what it looked like when all we had here was land based transit.Image
For the younger folks, here's a reminder: Image
OOC: This has been my first really successful FIRS game, and the first I really got into both ships and early aircraft. Upgrading those airports is going to be hard though ...

Let's add some more here. I've stopped playing on this map because it stopping being interesting, but I might do a single player FIRS game on a smaller 1kx1k or 2kx2k map if folks would be interested in it.
Apia Valley Ironworks + Marshaling Yard

Image

Most of the iron on the map is transported here to Apia; the remains of a narrow gauge freight line is slowly being buried under the desert. The marshelling yard is used turn trains rapidly for all departure sectors, as well as allow them to move out of the way when not needed or when demand is low. Metal trains route north of Apia along the mountains before using the Niles tunnel to their final destination. The line is dual tracked in preparation of an expansion that never came.
Apia Tanner Road + Marshelling Yards

Just past the fork between the Apia and Lome mainlines, Apia Tanner Road is one of the oldest active stations on the map. Originally opened as a narrow gauge freight line, standard gauge steam began was installed in the 1930s, connecting Apia Tanner to the nearby iron works. This section would become the basis of the Apia Iron trade. Diesel engines are becoming more common and can be seen hand and hand with older heavy steamers.

Apia West

The northern terminus of the Apia Iron Lines, Apia West serves as a terminus and servicing station, Further south, traffic splits off to the Nicosia branch line; the only Cement Factory in the southern sector and current terminus of most of the stone and clay on the map.

Cockburn Approach Sectors; The narrow one track connection is currently the only right of way from the western division to the rest of the network.

Cockburn is one of the largest cities on the map. Waterway has decided to bring in a new high speed passenger service from Helsinki on the Western Division to Plymouth via a new dedicated electric right of way. As the existing mainline is used for slow freight, a new station will have to be designed.
By 1965, the new Cockburn Southern Station is opened, and passenger service to the original station is discontinued. A few freight trains still use the original alignment to move from the Western Division to the main network. Due to it's isolated nature, the western division drives on the right, while the rest of the network drives on the left, but plans for a new empire connection to unify the networks are put in place

This photo is the last usages of the Cockburn Connector before the Empire Line breaks ground. At this point, the catenary has not been removed in the connector. Boxcars of food moving along the Twin Bridges
The Empire Connection opens for operation, and the approach sectors for the original connector are servered. Despite an end of rail service, the original Cockburn station remains in operation as both a museum and streetcar line allowing ease of transfer to the new Southern Station.

The original semaphore signals have been replaced with modern electric lights.
