[OTTD] Katve's Screenshots

Post by Katve »

Hello again, long time no see. Checking from my post history it seems like last post in my screenshot thread is from 2013 which was 3 years ago. Instead of bumping that up I decided to make a new one. I hope this is okay.

---

It is 1979. Finnwell is a country which for many years has solved their need for transport by road transportation. Lots of people prefer personal vehicles and public transportation is done by bus network. Outside of small subway network in capital city called Braningstone, there are no railway lines in whole country.

In late 1970s there were findings of oil on the soil of Finnwell. This earned Finnwell lots of new international attention. Foreign investors quickly started project to build oil refinery and oil wells to make use of these resources. In 1979 oil refinery was completed. New need for transportation of oil needed new infrastructure. Parliament started to discuss two options. Either imporving national highway network or building a train line to carry oil. Despite having no rail network parlament agreed to start building railway from two oil fields to new refinery. Finnwell used to be colony of Finland in the 1800s so it was only natural to order small fleet of diesel engines from Finnish company called Valmet. These locomotives were in Finland called Dr12 with nickname "Huru". Railway was completed in 1980 and first oil trains started to run. At this point there was no intention to start carrying passengers or expanding into whole country. With a fleet of 10 locomotives, transportation needs for oil was met.

Due to mountainous nature of Finnwell's landscape, first railway lines followed road network. Here you can see oil train passing by town called Preham while bus waits at the level crossing.

Quickly after beginning the railway operations it become apparent that one Dr12 Diesel Engine couldn't pull train full of oil up the hills of some mountain passes. This was firstly countered by ordering more Dr12 engines from Valmet and assigning two engines to every train. Year later new harbor to transport refined oil out of country was build and new even longer trains were needed. At same time in Finland there was experimental engine based on Dr12. Powerplant had been replaced by more powerful variant. This variant failed in Finland because there was widespread electrication of lines going on and diesel locomotives were quickly becoming obsolete. However Finnwell was very interested and ordered this new powerful engine for trains going to the port and started ordering them.

Nice screenshots!
I bet that the pilots that have to land on that airport in the second shot of your first post really love that elevated highway with the bridges at the end of the runway
And I sometimes really laugh at how silly the game can be, love how it placed the fuelstation on the slope next to the road, making the station unreachable for cars

It is now year 2000 in Finnwell and new millennia is about to begin. In the last 17 years that weren't covered in this thread, Finnwell started to build railway network for passenger usage. In late 1980s some minor intercity routes were completed south of capital but in 1997 there was major event for rail transportation as mountain pass between capital region of Braningstone and Northern Finnwell was completed. These are two biggest urban regions in the country. First service to go through mountain pass is high speed service between Groninbury and Braningstone, two largest cities in Finnwell. In the 90s Finland order SM3 high speed train which is finnish name for Pendolino. Same spec Pendolino was also chosen as train for this new high capacity route. This route alone reduced buses in operation by over 100 and speed and reliability of route was increased majorly. Also other routes benefited from reduced congestion on road network. Braningstone became major railway hub in late 90s and now in new millennia it is continuing to grow.

Near future plans for rail network are mostly bringing more diverse services to mountain pass and continuing mainline further south. Also updating to more high speed track is in the plans because current 180km/h track can't support Pendolino at its 220km/h top speed.

Pendolino going down the mountain pass during summer of 2000. Also worth noticing is lesser traffic on highway which is result of these new railway projects. Also seen is SM1 regional train which has two different paintjobs because renevation of units was underway in 2000.

In early 2000s there were minor new improvements to railway network. City of Renham got intercity services to capital region and Groundingbury. New seperated track in northwestern part of map started to serve surroundings of Trufingway. This line was only for diesel trains as electric track was deemed to expensive for sparse services. Dr16 "Iso-Vaalee" was ordered again from Finland to become modern diesel engine of railway network.

Intercity train pulled by Dr16 leaving Trufingway. As can be seen services are much more remote here. Not shown is Trufingway-Buham airport which gives diect services out of this far away city.

Newly opened train station of Renham. Intercity train and regional train with EMU can be seen near the station. Two Pendolinos (High speed services) are passing station. Busy highway goes under pair of bridges and also plane can be seen on picture flying towards Charningpool Airport.

Faster services pass Tendingham so bybass track was constructed next to highway. Double-Decker intercity train can be seen on bypass track and two other trains can be seen stopping at the station
