Type of climate for the game OpenTTD

Post by STD »

I decided to create a new topic - Type of climate for the game OpenTTD :D . Don't know how it will be interesting for players. But I decided to conduct a survey to learn the preferences of the players.
The following questions:
- what determines the choice of the type of climate?
- what guides you when you choose it?
- what size map do you use?

I use arctic climate with OpenGFX+ Landscape to turn the grass back to temperate. I feel this gives a nicer look of temperate winters.

Overall the temperate. But I like the Tropical quite a bit too - and I've recently been playing the Alpine, where the changing snow levels add some interest.

I prefer to play in a subarctic climate. I like snowy areas. :)
But I can play in a temperate or tropical climate. The size of the map - 512х512

I like arctic climate, but I often play with temperate. Tropical is too egzotic for me. ;-)

For me, the choice of climate is tied to the trainset I use..

Anything UK = temperate
Swiss set = alpine
German set = temperate so far, but I'll probably do alpine for any future games
Czech set = temperate (even though I haven't played a CS set game since ~2008)
US set (NARS) - arctic so far, but I want to try tropical climate too
Japan - temperate so far..

As for size - the largest map I can reasonably play with (before getting bored or overwhelmed) is 1024×1024 (as with my UK and US games). Shame that the map edge sizes have to be a power of 2, though - a 1536×768 map would be nice..

Same here. Arctic climate, 60 per cent water, mountainous - a lot like Norway :)
