1) Rush hour at Clevedon

2) Brand new Metrovick EM2 electric loco is ready to haul its first express to Leeds

3) 160 kph top speed and INSANE power for a passenger diesel - Class 55 Deltic between Axminster and Basildon. The line was electrified shortly after. All non-commuter passenger traffic there is now hauled by AL1 electrics, the diesels have been transferred elsewhere

Some maps.. As of 1960, little has changed from late 40s, the largest building project being the electrification of Axminster-Basildon-St. Albans line..

Weeell.. The line between Ware and St. Albans was too congested, so I upgraded it to 4 tracks, along with expansion of both stations.. but then it all went downhill..

My on-the-fly messing with the PBS signals along the route resulted in two crashes with five trains involved and no less than 992 deaths. Kinda spoils your day, neh?

1) Crash #1 - 314 dead - Trains involved:
  • 4-6-2 Merchant Navy hauling the Basildon-Leeds express
  • Metro-Camm unit on a St.Albans - Stanley all-stopper
Plus a near-miss of a Class 55-hauled express.

2) Crash #2 - 678 dead - Trains involved:
  • Axminster-Basildon-St.Albans express, hauled by Class 81 loco
  • St.Albans-Marlow regional train with an old Pannier tank
3) ..aaand moments later, another train crashes into the wreckage
  • St.Albans-Ashford regional, consisting of a couple of Metro-Camm units

Well, sounds like it is time to break out the handy dandy time machine -- that is, load a recent autosave!

Sure, just not yet 8) When I get to, say, GY 2012, I'll post my savegame archive...

Short list of things I did in the past 5 game years:
  • Airplane fleet has been vastly expanded with newest jets and turboprops
  • Many aging steamers have been replaced with modern diesel engines
  • Sections of Glossop-Axminster mainline upgraded to 4 tracks
  • Most of Glossop-Leeds line between Barrhead and Leeds upgraded to 4 tracks
  • Second passenger line between Basildon and Axminster electrified
  • St.Albans station has been expanded, similar expansions are prepared for York and Clevedon
  • Minor touchups of the lines west of Nottingham. I found some rather disturbing engineering screwups in the process (like a missing rail segment - now I know why trains going through Kirkburton were lost all the time)
  • Tram lines in Glossop torn up and replaced with bus services.. Leyland Titan is the king of the hill when it comes to intra-city transport, so similar actions will probably follow in Basildon and Headingley
Also, some screens:

1) My screens started to resemble some sort of "Greatest disasters" documentary, so here's one more: a thoroughly baked Caravelle for your sick pleasure..

2) New AM2s on commuter trains between Basildon and St. Albans. Similar units also haul passeners between Basildon and Axminster.

3) Lichfield, little town located on Glossop-Axminster mainline (quad-tracked, the portion south of Lichfield is yet to be completed) with diverging line to Stanley/St. Albans (west) and a branch line to Cowbridge (north). The original 4-track station was too much of a bottleneck, so I expanded it along with the rest of the line.

Moar goodies!

1) One of just over 100 remaining steam engines, lost in a sea of Rail Blue

2) Ships may be slow and ugly, but that capacity.. 800 pax in one go, no prob..

3) An up-to-date map of the southeast, where most of the new construction works take place

Bump...

1) Most of all-stop passenger trains west of Headingley are routed via Melton Mowbray

2) In late 70s, GER had 26 aging Deltics in its inventory. Here's one of their replacements - a brand new HST

3) GER's subsidiary airline now boasts more than 100 planes, but such things have their downsides too. Headingley International is currently the busiest airport on the map.

I started another game, this time with DBSetXL..

1) Local line (Elbmünster-Olsbrück-Mühlheim) and two BR92-hauled passenger trains

2) Another local line (Mühlheim-Bad Chemnitz) with an E52-hauled train. I originally used E62s on this line...

3) A twisty part of Elbmünster-Niederfeld mountain mainline

Very good-looking shots! Especially the last. I like that hilly landscape :)
Sorry for my awful English.

1) Another part of Elbmünster-Niederfeld mainline, this time on the other side of the mountain range.

2) Here are the E62s I mentioned before, being transfered to another line.

3) Did I mention I like NuTracks' "track planning" feature?

1) Same area as one of the first screens, about 15 game years later. Heavy coal and pax traffic, with some steel and oil thrown in. Those big E95 are very powerful, but their 70 kph top speed is a major downside, so I intend to replace them with E94s once the 80kph tank cars become available.

2) One of the experimental V140s. Better than BR38s, at least on local duties..

3) Part of Rottbrücken-Niederfeld line. Quite a busy place.

1) The lines in southeastern part of the map desperately needed some love.. So here comes upgrade to 160 kph track speed and new (or, in case of the V200, repurposed) rolling stock..

2) Saalfurt station post-1972 refit

3) Industrial / dockland area west of Elbmünster

1) Cloppenberg, important station halfway between Elbmünster and Heidelberg, during early 70s..

2) One of last VT95s still running in 1982

3) Fairly heavy traffic on the Niederfeld-Rottbrücken line, sometime during early 80s
