Tiverton Midsomer Station
On the very outskirts of the City, lies Tiverton Midsomer Station, the Island's main High Speed station. Due to the planned expansion of the services to this station, land has been purchased for a 5th platform to be built. Here, one of the Express Services from Watford Farringdon arriving into Platform 3, whilst a stopping service awaits to depart from Platform 1 for Jevington. The two commuter platforms are lettered A and B to avoid confusion with the mainline platforms, and seen arriving into Platform A is a Tiverton Overground service from Euston.

So I thought that I would try something a little different this time, still from the same game as above. A small diary of the reconstruction of Wakefield Station.

1)Before work began
Here we see Wakefield Station before all the reconstruction began. From this shot we can see that Wakefield is by the junction between the West Coast Main Line and the cross country route. The only platforms for Wakefield at this point in time are on the Slow Lines, but it was soon realised that this station could become a major junction on the network.

On the train front, in this Screenshot, we also see a pair of Virgin Trains Super Voyagers on a service from Tiverton Euston to Jevington.
Wakefield Reconstruction 1 - Before.png
Wakefield Reconstruction 1 - Before.png (387.8 KiB) Viewed 893 times
2)Setting up the Diversion
To allow the Mainline to fully function whilst the reconstruction was taking place, a temporary track layout was set up, to take trains around the site where the line was being reconstructed. Soon after, all the original track was removed, as well as the original Platforms. As no trains were able to stop at Wakefield during the reconstruction, a replacement bus service was set up with a 10 minute frequency, with 4 services an hour between Doddiscombsleigh to the North and Tring to the South, and 2 services an hour between Doddiscombsleigh and Balcombe on the Cross Country line.

On the train front, in this Screenshot, another pair of Virgin Trains Super Voyagers can be seen with a service South to Tiverton Euston, on their way from Jevington.
Wakefield Reconstruction 2 - Diversion.png

3) Planning the new station
A large amount of planning went into the design for the new station and it's trackwork, with the planned 6 platform station being located right on the junction between the mainline and the Cross Country line. All lines had to access to all platforms, as Virgin Long Distance services, Local Tiverton Midland services and Long Distance CrossCountry services are all planned to stop here, and several trains may need to cross over to get to their desired route.

On the train front, in this screenshot, we can see a pair of Virgin Trains Pendolinos, one heading south to Tiverton Euston with a service from Manchester Piccadilly, and one heading North to Banstead, with a service from Tiverton Euston. Also Visible is a pair of Tiverton Midland 321s on a service from Much Hoole New Street to Tiverton Euston, and a Freightliner Class 70 on an Iron Ore working, having just come off the Cross Country line.

4) Re-opening
After being Shut for 18 months, causing Considerable amounts of delay and Disruption, and having over ran by 6 months, the station was finally ready to be re-opened. The First service to stop at the station after reopening was the 0624 Virgin Trains Pendolino Service to Tiverton Euston, from Caterham, which can be seen after having left Platform 2. A Virgin trains service to Eccles can be seen about to pass through Platform 3 at 125mph. Stopped on Platform 4 is the 0627 Tiverton Midland service to Tiverton Euston from Rawtenstall, made up of a pair of Class 321s. Approaching Platform 5 is a Freightliner Container service to Tiverton's RailFreight Centre, hauled by a pair of Class 86s, and on Platform 6, is a pair of CrossCountry Class 170s, the 0628 service from Manningtree to Rawtenstall, this service having left Manningtree at 0332! Also visible is the new Wakefield Seafront Development, on the other side of the new station, planned to help Wakefield to grow, and attract Tourists.

The new 4 track section between Dundingbury and Tunborough has just opened, and customers are already pleased with the new Services. Before the addition of the extra 2 tracks, 35mph Coal Trains held up the 70mph expresses, causing serious delays to the customer. Now the expresses sail past, with only the odd stopper getting held up by the coal trains.

In this picture, we can see the first 2 express trains to use the new fast lines, passing each other just outside Slenfingbridge. 2 Coal trains pass each other, whilst one of the aforementioned local services trundles along behind it.

A few Screenshot from my latest Game, using the Falkland's Scenario made by STD.

The year is 2020, and several older types of trains are withdrawn from the British Mainland after being replaced by more modern types. Many of them find their way to the Falklands, where a new railway network is built, after being plagued with transportation issues for many years. The majority of them are still wearing the original liveries, with the railway company having very little money to repaint them.

Stanley
Here we see an Overview of Stanley. since the introduction of the railways, the islands have become a much more attractive place to live, and Stanley has ballooned to a population of 6,728 (More than the entirety of the Falklands in real life). The town is served by a fleet of buses (Routemasters and Dennis Darts, again withdrawn from the mainland), which link the Centre to the Train station in the North. At the Railway Station, some of the fleet can be seen. In Platform 1 is 150927, formerly of First Great Western. This Hybrid set has found use on the services between Stanley and Salvador via Teal Inlet. Arriving into Platform 2 we see 158752 (ex-Northern) and 158770 (ex-EMT) with an Express from Port San Carlos. Departing from Stanley are a pair of 150s (150202 (ex-FGW) and 150285 (ex-ATW)) with an all stops service to Goose Green. In the Freight Terminal to the West of the Town, MPV 19 (DR98917 and DR98967) can be seen with a rake of Container Wagons, loading for a Goods Service.

Goose Green and Darwin
Here we see an Overview of the area of Goose Green and Darwin, another area that has benefited greatly from the introduction of the railways. Goose Green, despite originally being the larger of the two towns, is now the smaller, however, is a major railway junction. In Goose Green station, we can see various examples of more cascaded stock, in Platform 0 (the Bay), we can see 153302, in East Midlands Trains Livery, loading for a one stop journey to Walker Greek. Having just left Platform 1 with the stopper to Stanley, we see the same pair of 150s as earlier. In Platform 2 see the flagship of the Falklands Railways, as it was for many years in Britain, the HST. This particular example was formerly of EMT, and now runs an Express service between Stanley and Port Howard.

And Just a little extra one, Here we see MPV22 (DR98922 + DR98972) and 37601 (ex-DRS) passing each other just outside Bluff Kove. The MPV is on a Goods service, whilst the 37 is hauling carriages full of Livestock to Stanley for processing.

Re: [OTTD] Pilot's Screenshots

Time for a before and after screenshot from my Current German Game.

Petershagen Juntion (Before and After)
Petershagen Junction, immediately to the south of Horb am Neckar station was a major pinch point on the network. The Stopping trains on the Homberg Mainline were stopping immediately after departing Horb am Neckar station, at the 2 Platform Petershagen Station. As all trains on the Homberg Mainline, such as the Northeim to Forchtenburg Express (one of the railway companies flagship trains), had to go through Petershagen Station, a stopping train could cause major disruption, reducing Capacity at Horb am Neckar station and also impacting services on the Hainichen Mainline, Northeim S-Bahn and Northeim Airport Express trains (the railway company had received several delay claims from Passengers who had missed flights, which could easily cost over a thousand euros at a time). After several years of coping with this, the railway company decided that enough was enough, and began a 400 Million Euro modernisation project of the area.

This is the area before work began:
Petershagen Before.png
Petershagen Before.png (1010.04 KiB) Viewed 893 times
The work took place over the course of 12 months, with several night time closures of the lines, and a Christmas Blockade, much to the misery of passengers wanting to get home for the holiday season. This was the final result:
Petershagen After.png
(1.35 MiB) Not downloaded yet
In this picture, we can see a stopping train and an express train, both leaving onto the Homberg Mainline at the same time, impossible under the old layout!

The work entailed
- The demolition of the old Petershagen Station.
- The construction of a new Petershagen Station on a straighter alignment from the Junction
- The construction of a Fast line between Horb am Neckar and Titisee-Neustadt, bypassing Petershagen Station, and reducing the impact the stopping trains had on the expresses.
- The construction of an additional pair of platforms at Titisee-Neustadt, to increase capacity there.
- The complete remodelling of Petershagen Junction.
- Raising the ground level to allow trains a flatter run into and out of Horb am Neckar station.

Re: [OTTD] Pilot's Screenshots

Post by Pilot »

It's been a while! I'm going to do something a little different. These screenshots are a part of the same game as the previous screen's in the thread from September 2016. So, without further ado...

Thalys Journey Diary
Löffingen to Sommerda Königs Kreuz
Thalys have launched their first services in the region, with a High Speed service run by Alstom-built TGV trainsets, capable of 300km/h (186mph). In this journey diary, we follow train 9532, the 14:00 departure from Löffingen on it's journey to Sommerda, which takes 5 hours and 17 minutes. Today, this service is operated by TGV set 4302.

We board our train in Löffingen, a busy station with 9 platforms (7 Mainline, 2 S-Bahn); Our train is waiting on Platform 2. There is a serious lack of capacity at this station, so it was somewhat surprising when Thalys were granted paths to start/terminate their services here. Works have been proposed to expand the station, but it's location, hemmed in by buildings on each side, would make any works both difficult, and expensive.
1, Loffingen.png
1, Loffingen.png (688.16 KiB) Viewed 893 times
We depart Löffingen bang on-time at 14:00, and quickly reach Osterhofen Jn. This Junction allows access from both the Northeim line (the route we will be taking), and the Lengenfeld line, to the fast and slow lines into Loffingen. It's layout is far from optimised, and works have also been proposed to upgrade this, however, it is unlikely this will happen before any upgrade at Loffingen. Unfortunately for our train, this lack of optimisation means that two late running slow services cross over in front of us, delaying us by 2 minutes.
2, Osterhofen Jn.png
2, Osterhofen Jn.png (568.72 KiB) Viewed 4186 times
Not long after passing Osterhofen Jn, we reach our first stop, Weinstadt und Overath, 2 minutes late. This station serves the towns of Weinstadt and Overath, and is also connected to the S-Bahn network that services Loffingen. Again, we get held here for a slow, stopping service, so depart 4 minutes late.

After departing Weinstadt und Overath, we have a short journey to our next stop, Sinzig. We here see our train departing from Platform 1 and leaving the Northeim Mainline, still 4 minutes late. Sinzig station is another station that is less than optimised, with S-Bahn trains sharing platforms with mainline services following rationalisation of the layout in the 1980s. Plans are afoot to give the S-Bahn trains their own platform to reduce the congestion here.
4, Sinzig.png
4, Sinzig.png (614.46 KiB) Viewed 893 times
Another short run, we reach Stadtilm North, and arrive into Platform 3. We've managed to claw back a minute on journey from Sinzig, thanks to the TGVs quick acceleration. Stadtilm is serviced by two stations, both of which have direct service to Sinzig, however, Stadtilm North is by far the more major. Suggestions are that a Bus service may be introduced here to link the two stations, removing the need for passengers to either walk across town, or change in Sinzig, however, nothing has yet materialised.
5, Stadtilm.png
5, Stadtilm.png (791.74 KiB) Viewed 893 times
After departing Stadtilm North, we have a relatively long run, and claw back another 2 minutes, before passing non-stop through Walldorf. The Introduction of Thalys services passing through here has upset local residents, as the level crossing is now down for longer each day, with an additional 5 trains a day each way passing over it. However, that didn't stop the service from beginning, and we see our Thalys set about to pass through at 180km/h, and pass a local service, as well as a Northbound set, which has been held just outside the station whilst the local train departs.

After Walldorf, we pass through the forests, before slowing for the junctions and the stop at Emsdetten, a 4-track station, that is a relatively busy junction station. We arrive 1 minute late, barely noticeable, into Platform 4, and just after our arrival, 2 trains pass the station throat, whilst another is held outside (on the line we'd just arrived from) to await it's turn to enter the station. Due to the slightly extended dwell time that is available here, we are able to depart bang on-time.
7, Emsdetten.png
7, Emsdetten.png (544.48 KiB) Viewed 4178 times
Oranienbaum-Wörlitz is the next station we get to, passing through Platform 1 without stopping. Here we will take the junction to the south (bottom of picture). That station has recently had an extensive rebuild, and has only just reopened to services. Access to the platforms here is by means of a subway, which is only accessible via the station building.
8, Oranienbaum-Worlitz.png

The next stop for our train is Viersen. Despite being a rather small town, it has major role on the network, serving as an interchange between Express and Local services. We pull into Platform 1, whilst an Interconnex service to Großschirma departs from Platform 2.

Despite being a High Speed service, you will have noticed that our Thalys has so far been following the conventional lines. Our next stop, Hainichen Ostbahnhof, is where that changes. Located on the outskirts of Hainichen, this is the ICE station for the city, with S-Bahn and bus services linking it to the city centre. We arrive into Platform 1, where we have an extended dwell of 6 minutes, to await a path on the High Speed lines.
10, Hainichen Ost.png
10, Hainichen Ost.png (756.67 KiB) Viewed 893 times
Departing Hainichen on-time, we reach our trains top speed of 300 km/h relatively quickly, and soon find ourselves reaching Meinerzhagen, where we pass through at speed. Despite being located on the high speed lines, the station we are passing through is the least major of the 2 in Meinerzhagen, with that honour falling to the Central station. A frequent bus service links the two stations together, whilst there is also a bus to the Coach station from the High Speed station.
11, Meinerzhagen.png
11, Meinerzhagen.png (1.2 MiB) Viewed 893 times
We soon find ourselves passing around the edge of Bad Berka. When the High Speed lines were built, the town was too small to be considered for ICE service, so no station was built here. However, a frequent coach service was introduced with the construction of the Autobahn here, and the population of the town increased rapidly. Proposals are now being drawn up for a station to be built on the High Speed line to serve the town. Another railway line also passes the town, however, this is a freight only line, so no passenger service will be offered on this.

Joachimstahl is the next station we call at, arriving into Platform 5 four minutes late due to being regulated on the approach to the station. Just outside the station, we crossed over from the High Speed tracks to the Mainline tracks, as our next stop isn't a part of the High Speed network. Joachimstahl station is a major interchange point, and junction, with services from here to all 4 corners of the region.
13, Joachimstahl.png
13, Joachimstahl.png (1.07 MiB) Viewed 893 times
The reason our train is now back on the conventional lines is Vöhringen Airport, one of the more major airports of the region. Several services pass through here non-stop, however, we stop in platform 2. The airport itself sees a lot of traffic, and is severely overcrowded, operating at 95% capacity. It is hoped that more, higher speed, services stopping here may relieve some of the pressure on the airport for flights.
14, Vohringen Airport.png
14, Vohringen Airport.png (1.06 MiB) Viewed 893 times
A short distance away, the next stop on the line is Vöhringen itself. Vöhringen is the busiest station on the network, seeing 214 trains stopping at it's 14 platforms. A large amount of works are underway to increase this to 16 platforms, with the addition of 2 platforms for the S-Bahn services, and various capacity enhancements will also be made, including improvements to the station throat, a victim of rationalisation in the 1970s. Our train arrives into Platform 2, which is probably the worst platform for this service to be given, as it requires crossing the entire throat to allow access to our route, which is where the S-Bahn train is currently going.

To allow access to the next part of our journey, we continue to follow conventional lines, and soon reach the reversing sidings at Mindelheim. The S-Bahn trains have already branched off by this point, and there is a limited stopping service beyond the reversing sidings, so we find ourselves about to enter the single track section. The reversing sidings here are used by Railjets, that terminated in Vohringen. This allows the platform capacity there to be used for additional services.
16, Mindelheim.png

Soon after entering the single track section, we cross over the 4 track mainline out of Vohringen, with the old second bridge, which has been taken out of use, still in place here. We enter the passing loop at Neuburg an der Donau, passing through the station non-stop, before entering the tunnel just beyond, after which, the line returns to single track. The majority of people in Neuburg now take the frequent coach services that stop here.
17, Neuburg.png
17, Neuburg.png (819.3 KiB) Viewed 893 times
We reach our next stop, at Bückeburg Low Level, with the High Speed lines we left at Joachimstahl passing overhead, where an express mail is thundering through. We stop in Platform B, so lettered to avoid confusion with the numbered High Speed platforms. On our departure here, we will take the single track curve, to continue on our way to Sommerda.

After departing Bückeburg, the next place of any importance that reach is Steinbach-Hallenberg, which we pass non-stop through 5 minutes early due to some slack in the timings. Due to it's location on a Peninsula that juts out into a large lake, the town is surrounded by water on 3 sides. This means all lines entering the town have to cross a bridge, with the pair of concrete viaducts being a notable landmark for the town. These viaducts have been built to allow enough clearance for a Clipper to pass underneath.

Due to our early running, we get held at the next station, Mörfelden-Walldorf, to allow a local service to clear the block ahead, much to the confusion of passengers on the platform, who are awaiting the arrival of the next local service that is due 10 minutes later. Many of the passengers on the platform attempt to board the Thalys service, whose doors are locked, thinking it is their train. When the signal clears, the driver, who has been informed of this by her train manager, gives a long blast on the horn to warn those on the platform, and slowly accelerates away. This action avoided any injury and delay to the train.

We get the opportunity to overtake the local service that was ahead of us at Marienberg, another station we don't stop at. This too is a relatively major junction.

We start our approach to the next station, Perleberg High Level, on a reinstated section of slow-speed single track. This section was once double track, and the main route into Perleberg station, but after the construction of the low level, this quickly fell out of use and was torn up. Fortunately the track bed was kept, and one track was reinstated especially for the Thalys service, which allows them access back onto the High Speed lines.

Back on the High Speed lines now, we get back to cruising at our top speed of 300km/h. We soon reach Kappeln, a small town of just 617 people. Despite it's small population, Kappeln serves as an Interchange between High Speed and local services, giving it a rather important place on the network. However, our Thalys train speeds on by on the through tracks.

At it's top speed, our train eats up the miles pretty quickly, and we find ourselves on the approach to Neunburg vorm Wald, a large lakeside city. Plans for the first Thalys services in the region had originally called for the service to rejoin conventional lines here, however, a lack of projected demand against the Interconnex services that already run there meant that we remain on the high speed lines. One of the aforementioned Interconnex services, sits in Platform 2, awaiting any passengers transferring from this service, whilst another is just leaving platform 3. We arrive into Platform 4 one minute early.

Schwarzenbach am Wald is the next station served by the Interconnex trains, and also the next one served by ICE services, one of which we can be seen overtaking whilst that stops in the platform.

We continue at full speed as we pass through the outskirts of Polch. Despite being a major city, no station is provided here for high speed services, due to a lack of room in the City centre. If we had left the high speed lines at Neunburg however, we would have been able to stop, instead, it is just served by local trains, and the Interconnex services we connected to. Despite it's lack of station on the high speed tracks, it is still serviced by ICE services at...

Rinteln station. A short distance away, various local services that run straight to Polch terminate here, so it was decided it was a perfect place to provide an interchange point between Local and ICE services.
