Usually I play with town growth speed set to slow, but for this game I changed it to normal to get some big japanes cities.
In 9 years the size of Uetani has almost doubled. The station has also been upgraded to handle more trains. Notice the station pilot in siding at the second picture!

The main reason for relatively low amount of vehicles is that most of the time between 40s and 70s was spent on watching trains and doing minor tweaks, instead of enlarging the network.
I made a small video that shows some of the more busy areas in the map.

There is a patch for it: Catenary on third rail-type
But I think that with new railtypes it should be possible without patching, at least once japanset is updated to use new railtypes.
