SwissFan91's European Screenshots

Hi all,

This is my first time posting screenshots, so feel free to add any critisisms, i will try and use them constructively

As i usually try and built realistic routes etc, try not to insult my track layouts etc, as its not what i was concentrating on ! Also, i haven't tried to stick to the correct timescales, so i do know that Eurostar wasn't around in 1977 !!

Here's the first one, a shot of the newly built Thalys trains entering Rotterdam station. In addition, a batch of car passengers wait for the connection to Kingston-upon-Hull, aboard the newly formed CARLINE company ferries.

Thanks

Anyway, here is the situation at Paris Gare de Lille, where the Thalys train from Brussels are about to be joined by a Eurostar train from Paris. The large demand for car parking at the station has meant the car park has spilled away from just above the station.

you know your last picture, where are the platforms because they aren't visible and if theres some sort of underground platform GRF, why cant i see tunnel entrances?

It's a type of station in the Canadian station pack, that has a car park on top of the platforms, so no tunnels are involved.

Not bad, not bad at all .................. just 3 things bug me though, sorry!
  1. It's not a Thalys, it's a Class 91/coaches/mail van(DVT).
  2. Too many signals, just way too many.
  3. Signals on the wrong side of the tracks for the direction of travel.
Otherwise I like what I've seen so far :)

Yes yes i know, but as i had decided to use the UK rail set, and i had made the Thalys route, so i thought i would cheat a bit

Yeahh that is a fair point, i always mean to put the drag tool down to about 1 every 3 tiles but i never seem to get round to it :?
Signals on the wrong side of the tracks for the direction of travel.
That was just a mistake

Anyway i suppose i had better go take a few more....

I thought you'd have words to say about the balloon loops at the stations ;)

Ps - try to avoid the 90-degree turns, they're really unrealistic and slow trains down to 38mph on them

Fair enough critisisms, i cant really argue against them. Just seem quicker to build, its always hard to build realistic end-of-line stations with a high frequency of trains as just having reversing stations can get incredibly congested.

I closed my eyes and pretended they weren't there!

In OpenTTD 0.7.0, the PBS signals are included. These mean you can run multiple trains through the same junction at the same time, easily put. Give them a try! They are really useful

Right after a huge lay-off, i have decided to revamp this scenario. I myself am disgusted at my own layouts in those previous shots, so heres a few more that should ease that pain.

1. A First group HST leaves Paddington on its journey towards Penzance. Here, the tracks can also be seen for the Heathrow Express.
2. The scene at Paris Gare de Lille, where a TV Thalys train sits on Platform 5, while a Eurostar train can be seen racing towards Lille and beyond. The Paris metro train arrives just as a 747 takes off for some exotic destination.
3. The bustling car ferry port of Calais is always a hub of transport, with the CARLINE service arriving to whisk car passengers off to the Port of Dover. Also, two Eurostar trains can be seen passing, as one prepares to plunge under the English Channel.

London Paddington needs to be bigger. Much bigger. It's got like, 14 platforms... Frikken nightmare when your train is delayed. "Which platforms it gonna end up on!?"

Yeah, i know. I was there just last week but managed to find my train home in the end. The problem is that because of the scale of the map, most of the regional services that leave Paddington aren't worth putting in, so i just stuck with two for the mainline trains.

Even ignoring the very short routes out of paddington, there is still quite a few routes that use it, like to Bristol, to Cardiff and to Plymouth/Penzance.

Without wanting to make excuses, the distance between London and Bristol was far too small to warrant the realistic lines from London - Bristol and the London - Castle Cary - Taunton line. I suppose i could include one to Cardiff, the thought crossed my mind.
