Re: [OTTD] Dave Worley's Screenshots
I'm very lazy I'm afraid. I got a new computer and haven't managed to get grf codec and everything working right yet. Those screenshots reminded me of how bad i've been.
At the very least ill get the few missing graphics done soon, and release whats done so far, and perhaps someone would be able to pick it up and finish some of th coding off, as It all got a bit beyond me.
Sorry, they have been in development for a long time.

Re: [OTTD] Dave Worley's Screenshots
More then... Concentrating on stations this time.
4: Poole
One of the later-added stations on the network, Poole is an intermediate station on the direct Shipley-Lancing Line, known as the North Valley Line for the Valley it crosses between Oadby and Poole. An equivalent would be the Trent Valley Line as a quicker route up the West Coast to Stafford. In this shot, we see the loading train of 0-6-0T No. 7260, whilst sister tank 7261 is approaching with a train from Oadby.
5: Winchester
A station on the Holloway Loop, Winchester is a bustling station on the very west side of the map. There are two non-electrified platform for occasional services from the Western Main Line. Trains call at all stations before continuing up a lightly used line to Winchester, which connects with the Holloway at Winchester South.
6: Lancing
The Flagship station in the north west, Lancing, has 9 platforms. Here we can see the north facing bay for the branch to Mickelthwaite, and the electrified through platforms. This station is a beautiful piece of architecture, something which the Midland is famous for all over the world.

I banked on the town growing... But it never did, haha. Compare that to Shipley, for example, which started with 990 residents and now sits at a fairly juicy 4,000.

Excellent stuff, can't wait for those stations.
one question, i notice you don't use waypoints to make sure your trains visit the right platforms...but looking closely, instead of waypoints, are you just treating the end parts of the platforms as waypoints as they seem to have their own names?...because if you are, thats a superb idea and one i would have to pinch!

Re: [OTTD] Dave Worley's Screenshots
To some degree, yeah. You can see that with Poole.
However with Lancing, I'm using waypoints in terms of using bare tracks. I'd like to use the signalboxes as stations that can be routed "through" but haven't yet found a way of using waypoint graphics as a station.
But yeah - you're not far off the mark.

Re: [OTTD] Dave Worley's Screenshots
Dave Worley is BACK!
Find attached a couple of screenies from a game I've started. GRF files are the usuals; I'm using OTTD 1.0.0-RC3 or however one might term it.
Note: I started this game with one town and low industries. It came up with a fairly interesting map with a number of industries. However as you might see, I've cheated to get myself a billion pounds, and build whilst paused. So £965m in, I'm still on Jan 1st 1921.
This is a conceptual game, intended to get the most I possibly can out of OTTD's model in terms of realism and attractiveness rather than efficiency and productivity. Obviously it's not necessarily true that you'd have a line of towns along a coast, but that's just how I've created this game. I've gone for a number of different concepts as seen in the UK, including mainlines, secondary mainlines, commuter lines and rural and branch lines. I've also created a "London-like" area with small towns and cities close to each other to hopefully create a metropolis later on. To this end I've created a circular line around this area, which can be seen in image 3.
The full map is below:
The current routemap is also below. Underneath will be a fairly in depth description...

I've built the Sotherton Loop to try and establish a route in the "city":
Sotherton Loop

So there you are, a game that's got some brilliant potential, but this isn't an easy game to even unpause - there's a lot of empty space, and I've not even considered industries. Needless to say many of the industries on the map will be removed to allow me to completely customise the routes taken. I think this one will be a cracker.

Regarding the empty space on the map, do you intend to fill it with more towns and more routes to an extent?

Not sure. I love this new "found town" option on OTTD as it means you can start a new route whenever you want. I think I'm going to start the game now and then create later on.jvassie wrote:A very nice start there Dave!! Eager to see this develop!

I am reading it, but without pictures. Meh. I'll look in a few months.
Re: [OTTD] Dave Worley's Screenshots - British Transport Board
Few screens for you:
Sudbury
A principal station on the West Coast Main Line, Sudbury is formed of two through platforms and two north facing bay-platforms. There are local, commuter and express services calling at this station. This image captures a busy afternoon at Sudbury, with the adjacent Dartford to the north.
Departing to the west is 3417 'City of Sudbury' having just left the station. Classmates 3418 'City of Yeovil' and 3419 'City of Poole' are both in the station. All three are on semi-fast services up the West Coast, calling at all principal stations. To the north, 7266 arrives at Dartford on an anticlockwise service around the Reedham Loop. Note the four track level crossing - the city insisted this was built to allow expansion on the east side of the station in years to come.
Building in the South
As the network stabilises and the Freight Division is launched, the BTB has been building west from Sotherton to Bridgwater and Biddulph, with stations at Newbury and Wrexham, which is in the image above. The railway has been completed as far as Biddulph, but there is still some work to be done on the way to Bridgwater. Whilst there are stations on this route, it is mainly expected to be a busy freight corridor.
Sotherton
With the network running at a profit now, the BTB has been given permission to extend west (as mentioned above). To this end, the corporation built a new station in the Centre of the planned Sotherton conurbation. It is smaller than St James, and has no connection to the Sotherton Circle, but is intended to be a terminus for this new railway. To help along the construction of the city, the BTB built roads connecting all suburbs and the city itself, which should see the city's population up to around 4,000. Note the flat crossing with the Sotherton Circle, which was necessary to save as much space as possible. The Sotherton station is the only one built on the new Newbury Forest Line, and the formation is yet to be signalled beyond Sotherton Bridge.
