That poor saddle tank... I can't picture them hauling any more than 3 or 4 wagons. Poor bugger will kaputt after a couple of years doing that.

Nice landscapes though :D

Onwards!
Its now the mid 1930's, there's been extensions to the passenger network creating 5 routes.
Margate - Leeds
Leeds Central - Stanley
Margate - Halifax and Selby
Margate - Selby Via Tiverton

Its now 1943 and the railway is booming.

Margate station has been changed again (pic 16), this time moving the Preston line so there is a physical connection with the other routes. The remains of the old route are to the left. A 4-6-2 Pacific leaves with an express.

Ixworth Thorpe station has been enlarged (pic 17). A bay has been provided for the local service to Leeds Central, and an extra line for the increased service to Margate from Leeds. A 4-6-0 Standard Five waits for departure with a Margate service.

Wilmslow has enjoyed a 200% population increase (pic 18 ). The line entering the tunnels is the original route to Stanley, to the left the new route to Yaxley. The line above the tunnels runs north to Leicester and is served by a service from Leeds. The route is shared by a grain service hauled by an old 0-6-0 Pannier Tank that I had sitting in a shed somewhere. In the station a pair of new AEC railcars (with an extra carriage and mail car) form the Yaxley service while a 2-6-4 Tank comes off the Stanley branch.

A few new screenies.......

19. Just north of Leeds is the junction for Carlisle or Leicester. 2 Standard Five's head away form the junction while a small tank engine crosses the viaduct with a local service from Leeds Central. This view is all set to change with double tracking on the Leicester line under the viaduct and an avoiding line round Carlisle station.

20. The Standard Five on the Leicester line approaches its destination.

21. The Leicester line was extended to Exeter in the north. A spare 4-6-2 Pacific was displaced from the Halifax line and rostered on this route with a rake of brand new carriages. A pair of AEC railcars with a parcel van work a local service between Huxley to the east and on to Knaresborough in the west.

Great shots Badger! :D
Dont you need to swap the GRF order for TTRS and BrickViaduct to get the roads on the bridges to show correctly?

The latest version of TTRS has the TTRS roads on bridges but I think that the newgrf.cfg order could affect that, not sure.

I swapped them around but I didn't see a difference, not really bothered anyway. Thanks for the comments guys.

Its 1957 now, finances are good so the company has decided to extend north-east from Halifax through Widness and Gloucester to Shipley (Pic 22). A 3-car Met-Cam DMU was purchased to provide the initial service (this will be strengthed to 6 cars if passenger levels are high), and a through service to Margate will also be provided in the future.

23.A new station was provided at Halifax (Central) where we can see the Met-Cam waiting for departure time. It joins the mainline via a triangle junction (pic 24). Its hoped this train will go to the main Halifax station but the local authority were not best pleased with my groundworks and refuse to allow removal of the bufferstops for now!

24. The triangle junction - a bit messy really, it will be reworked at a later date.

25.Widness is in a small valley, the railway enters form tunnels on either side just out of view. Plans are afoot to extend the small branch train between Selby and Halifax to here.

26.Gloucester is again in a valley, tunnels on either side. One homeowner was unwilling to except my generous relocation package, but an eviction notice has been served and the railway will be built!
Note the Brewery, utterly useless! The nearest farm is on the opposite corner of the map!

27.Shipley is rather unremarkable, although it does generate quite high passenger levels for such a small town.

Lovely picturesque scenes there Badger, your map shows a lot of towns, perhaps I ought to have more towns to get a bit more variety into my games, hmmm. Keep 'em coming.

Thanks for the praise.
I've got 27 towns in this game, 3 of which still have no service whatsoever! I prefer about 20, but this map happened to have a good spread. I'll keep with this one, probably up to 2010.

In the late 1950's the company was offered the chance to trial the new BR AM2 EMU. It was decided to electrify the commuter route between Stanley and Leeds Central (see pic 28) and store the almost brand new Met-Cam DMU's for later use.

28. Northeastern part of the map (further posts will feature these routes).

29. The first AM2 is seen at Leeds Central. Passenger levels have much improved here in recent years, the station was under threat of closure for a while due to a lack of patronage.

30. The AM2 is seen arriving at Stanley having stopped at Livingston and Wilmslow en route. The only electric depot is at Stanley.

31. Ferryhill station with a brand new Met-Camm DMU. This will form the service to Abingdon along the north coast calling at Newcastle. Eventually this service will run all the way to Knaresborough.

32. The Met-Camm crosses the viaduct between Ferryhill and Newcastle.

33. The Met-Camm leaves Newcastle. This will be where the line from Saltash will join from the south.
Also in view is the Brickworks. This has had a clay service form Abingdon for quite a few years now.

34. Abingdon station and the Clay pit. The Met-Camm terminates here for now. Passengers can change for an AEC railcar to Exeter and beyond. A Diesel Shunter runs the clay branch.

35. The company decided to connect the last town on the map to the network, Saltash. (see pic 28 for the route).
The 2 3-car Met-Camm's stored from the Stanley electrification where combined to a 6-car set and now run from Leeds Central to Ferryhill calling at Wilmslow and Saltash.
A busy scene at Wilmslow - the 6-car Met-Camm is the Ferryhill service, an AM2 for Livingston and an EE 10000 on an Exeter - Leeds service. Another 6-car Met-Camm waits for a platform with a service from Yaxley.

36. The Met-Camm takes the new line to Saltash. The line heading east is the Yaxley branch.

37. Saltash station and the Met-Camm crossing the bridge. The station (and whole route) will be doubled but Saltash Council were not impressed with the earthworks needed for the current line!

38. Having been to Ferryhill the Met-Camm is on its return run to Leeds Central and is seen crossing the new junction at Newcastle. (see pic 33 for the old layout).

39. A busy scene at Margate station. An extra platform has been added on the Preston side for the increase in frequency on that line and the overall roof extended. Each route also has waypoints for ease of pathfinding. A loop has been created so the Leeds line can access the depot.
2 6-car Met-Camm's are seen forming Preston/Tiverton services, a 4-6-2 leaves with a local to Halifax and another has just arrived off the Leeds line. A Streamliner waits for a clear path.

We've moved on to 1972 now, there has been electrification and widespread dieselisation - only one steamer remains!

nb - I've followed the BR numbering system for my locos and units.

40. An EE Type 1 no. D8000 approaches the outskirts of Margate with an iron ore train from Ixworth Thorpe Mine.

41. The company decided to transport the steel produced at Margate to a new factory just east of Livingston. A route was already available, just a spur off the Carlisle to Leeds Central line was needed. An EE Type 3 was purchased no.D6705 and is seen pulling off the factory line. A 6-car Met Camm is seen on the Leeds Central approaches.

42. Patronage has increased on the Leeds Central - Ferryhill route. The old Met Camm unit has been replaced by a Sulzer Type 2 no.D5154. Although less passengers are carried per train the overall top speed has been increased. The train is pictured coming off the bridge at Saltash

43. A farm at Huxley was deemed to be producing enough grain and livestock to warrant a couple of trains to Ferryhill Food Processing Plant. 2 Sulzer Type 2's where purchased no's D5151 and D5152. One of them can be seen loading at Huxley farm.....

44. ....... and the other unloading at Ferryhill Yard.

45. The companies last steam engine, a 2-6-4 Tank, works a short coal train between Knaresborough and Exeter. Its still got a few more years left in it! An EE Type 1, D8004 is seen loading at another mine.
