OLSE Map & Screenshot (New name soon?)

Post by Gwyd »

Welcome to the OpenTTD London & South East (OLSE) map! The idea is getting the South Eastern UK heightmap and adding all the railways, set in the early 2000s. This is in anticipation of BRTrains coming soon, so accurately timetabled services can come when the track is done. I've started at London Waterloo, and plan to build to Portsmouth, Reading, Brighton, Ashford, Dover, Margate, Ipswich, Kettering and basically, as far as the map will allow. When it is done, I'll put a link to the game save. I'm not sure what to do about intercity services, and light rail, but that's a future problem.

I'm open to suggestions!

All done in JGRpp 0.19.0, so thanks to JGR for all this being possible.

Very interesting, can't wait for the end result. I assume you'll be adding scenery later then?

Then here's my request for those towns: don't use grid-streets!

Ooooo, this looks nice! Out of interest, how close are you going to trying to get the track layouts, as many of these look pretty dang accurate!

The junctions I'm trying to get bang on, but the direction of the track is just so that it links up.

This looks like it's going to be awesome! Are you going to include things like sidings and heritage lines? Also, will you release a blank save where there are no trains, as well as one with timetabled trains on all the routes?

Blank save: yes, heritage lines: yes, sidings: mostly. If it doesn't get in the way too much, then yes.

Will keep an eye on this then, and I will keep checking my track diagrams versus what you've actually built as well

Don't you worry, I have my reliable sources :) . As far as airports go, I will add them as objects, not as functioning airports. The objects look much better. I'll probably add significant industries.

Amazing work so far!

However, given Surbiton was my local station for a few years I have to be nitpicky! There is a 5th track through the centre of the station with no platform face that is used for westbound trains. East of the station it merges/splits from 5 tracks to 4 through to Berrylands, and again back to 4 west of the station after the flyover line for Thames Ditton/Hampton Court diverges.

Thank you for your inside knowledge! I will use that when I get time to come back to this. During my silence I have done a substantial amount of the North London Line and the West London Line. And don't worry being nitpicky!

Good work Gwyd .. like what your doing.

I started on a scenario like this a few years ago from Sydney Australia to Newcastle and north to Taree and Werris Creek. Then I got side tracked into making things for the game. Hope to get back to it eventually.

Are you building to a scale? I was using 25 tiles equal 1 kilometre. That was based on length of trains .. 2 passenger carriages per tile . carriages averaged 20 meters in length so 1 tile would therefore equal 40 meters .. 25 x 40 equals 1000 meters (1 km).

I also mapped out where all the lines and sidings go and at that time I was using FIRS and where possible put the Industries where they would have been in each town.

My intention after completed was to change all the lines to either "Useless Tracks" or the dirt tracks from "Wired", so players can rebuild what they want a bit at a time. They can see where everything should go, just they build it themselves as they ready to expand.

Your idea using the default stations I think a great idea and players can change these to what ever set they wish.

Cheers pal
