First type of Transport?

If one type of transport was to be done for the game, so people could test the logictics and the graphics and so on, what should it be?

Then you will end up with real time and that's gonna take too much time I'm afraid.

How will you end up with real time like that? You've scaled down the distance, but the speed is constant. Let me do some arithmetics for you:

50 km/h = 50 km in 1 hour
after some arithmetics you found that 50 km = 20 squares,
so if 50 km = 20 squares, then 50 km/h equals 20 squares/h
You really want the game to take so long for 20 squares? Of course not, cause what you forgot is to scale down the time needed too!
You will end up with your vehicle doing 20 squares in 3 minutes.

Now don't complain that three minutes is too long, this is only an example!

You see, experience with scale trains always come to aid. I never waited years for my scale trains to arrive at the station!

Yes, I never disagreed with that. It would be nice to have a good smooth chang between day and night mode. And random lights being lit in houses... What about adding weather, like rain and snow? Or am I overreacting now? One thing more I would love to see is shadows from buildings, trees and vehicles.

agree ... but wemust think how to add day/night (and weather/seasons) ... how long will be day and night ...

Actually, i disagree with day/night mode, i brand it eye candy. It may look cool but i think we should focus on not only making, but perfecting the trains and other types before we start moving on at all.

Perhaps make the day night discussion in the ideas forum instead?

It is no matter in which topic ... anyway I can tell you how day/night cycle is in SimCity4 ....
There it changes in ONE month .... (this cycle uses MONETH instead of DAY)

To prevent you from going nuts, I think day/night switch should only betwice a gameyear. It may look like less, but included with the twilight zones you could make something out of it. Too often will indeed make you crazy. And as with all those games developped recently: Epilepsy Warning! We don't want to add that to the manual, do we?

It may be eyecandy, but it is eyecandy at large. If you decide to add it later on, you might have to edit the entire game engine. So you could at least take it into consideration.

Well if it means re-editing the whole engine, then i move myself (from infront of the bulldozer). As long as you guys find a way to do it that suits us all (good luck!) then go for it.

Not if it's written in OpenGL... Then it's just a matter of dimming the scene lighting, and maybe adding some vehicle lights.
