[RFD] How are docks constructed

Post by Hyronymus »

Same as for airports but now for docks:
  • A Local authorities initiate, construct and own docks
B Local authorities initiate and construct docks, offering them to players
C Local authorities construct and own docks, players initiate the construction
D Local authorities initiate and own docks, players construct them
E Local authorities initiate docks, players construct them and own them
F Local authorities construct docks, players initiate and own them
G Local authorities own docks, players initiate and construct them
H Players initiate, construct and own docks
Additional info: if the LA owns the docks, the docks would exist of a terrain with a reserved area to build docking spots and a reserved area to build 'ship depots'. Each company can construct what they want in the reserved area.

I vote H - what good is a public dock if there's no transport companies working it? Companies would be infinitely more likely to use their own docks :)

Docks are rarely used in games like TTD and Loco. I see no reason to restrict them. Sharing them would work nicely though.

That's not an option. You clearly didn't read the discussion we had about airports before the options were posted. Just pick one approach you like the most.

Hyronymus, why would that be impossible???

If the town thinks it needs a dock, it builds one. If some company thinks it needs a dock, it builds one. :?

I like that approach too.

You'll end up with unwanted, unused and possible ineffeciently placed docks 'just because the LA thought it was funny'. We had that discussion about airports and as a result the majority voted for G. But as I told Steve in my previous post I changed my mind on how docks should be built. I now think each company should have the right to build his own docks.

I highly doubt that the computer will efficiently place docks and I fear the annoyance it will result in.
