Next alpha - Alpha 4 now :)

This time you should get:

A mouse cursor
A resizable window
A reaction to closing via window close

new keys:

Mouse wheel - zoom in/out (the zoom is so long deliberately - allowing you to see the terrain buffering)
hold right click - drag terrain like in ttd
hold left+right - rotate terrain
m - create new

Now - the terrain buffering/division algorithm is a bit dodgy atm - it is on top of my list of upgrades - it may even crash, so be vary.

I'd like to test this version at my old win98 pc, but I can't unpack rar files here. Would you mind posting a zip file?

Or use 7-zip, which is free and supports quite a lot of archive types.

Any chance of a newer source code dump?....

Post by neroden »

As you may have noticed I ported the last source code to Linux.... but it's clear that Alpha 4 is newer than that. If I can get a copy of the source for it I could port that to Linux....

Render Target 'TEmpire' Average FPS: 4.63933 Best FPS: 5.42005 Worst FPS: 2.03252

When I tried to run the last version it complained about missing d3dx9_31.dll, but it worked OK when I renamed d3dx9d_31.dll to d3dx9_31.dll.

Very nice!

On Alpha 4, I average atou 25-30 FPS when moving the screen around a lot, and 30-35 when it's stationary... 32.3 or something I think it was...

When zoomed out, it still only loads the same number of tiles as when zoomed in, and the rest is black space.

With the no_frame_limit.bat, I get something like 800 FPS when stationary, but get immense slowdown when loading new tiles (down to about 5-10 FPS), then if I try to load too many tiles at once (ie dragging across the screen fast), it gives me a runtime error and crashes.

My computer:
Pentium dual core 2200
2gig of DDR2 RAM
GeForce 8600 512 GFX card
SATA HDD

Work's still going on... but slowly. We have only one coder and unfortunately for us (but fortunately for him) he does have a social life. If you want to to help coding, perhaps the best thing to do is contact Uzurpator directly.

This is something that is actively being worked on at the moment. If anyone with C++ experience on Linux wishes to help, please drop me a message.

Thanks

Please check this topic: Linux Effort
If you have already got it running in the mean time let me know. (So I can add your distribution to my list.)

We are close to a new alpha release, but it needs some more testing first.
If a new alpha version is released we will also post a link in this topic.
