TTD on XP ?

Post by Richard Roocroft »

Hope there's someone here who can help !

I've not played this game for ages (Win 98), & have recently bought a
laptop with XP Home.

How do I install it, as I'm a pc nerd, I'm afraid.

TIA.

First of all, you need the Windows version of TTD. The DOS version will NOT
work, period. If you have the DOS version, try downloading the Win version,
e.g. http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=1631. To see which version
you have, check your installation folder. If it contains a file
gamegfx.exe, it's the Windows version.
Second, you need an extra program called TTDpatch, available at
http://www.ttdpatch.net. Download the Windows version! (called latestw.zip). Unzip
that into your game folder, and run THAT program, NOT TTD itself.
Third, check out all the wonderful new features that ttdpatch offers.

If you have the DOS version of the game, it won't work. If you
have the Windows version of the game, you can get it to work by
using Josef's patch: download it from http://www.ttdpatch.net and
read the instructions that come with it. Windows XP support is one
of many things it can add to the game.

Thanks to Jan & Tom for replying, and the links look great too. I've
been away on business, 7 today was the first chance to act on your
suggestions.

Well, I've downloaded the Windows Tranny Tycoon, downloaded the patch, &
still can't get it to work !

I get 'TTDPatch v2.0 rev 1(windows) starting......'
then 'not found TTDLOADW.OVL'
'GAMEGFX.EXE, no such file'.

Have made a folder called My TTDLX where I've unzipped to.

The files in this folder are :
mkptxt
ttdpatch
a brown icon ttdpatchw, which is what I double clicked on
ttdpt20r1w
ttdpatch.cfg

Where have I gone wrong ?

Hope it's not the graphics card, which is a SIS 650 on the main board.

TIA & regards.

If that are all the files in the folder, then you should put those files into
the folder where TTDLX was installed. Then you can run ttdpatchw again.

The files from TTDpatch should be in the SAME folder as the TTD files.

Well, thanks for all your help, and I've got some news.......

I'd given up trying to get the darn thing running as you'd said, as it
just wasn't working. I went away for a few days, and when I came back,
there was my wonderful, wonderful teenage son playing away on it on XP
!!

Turns out I'd not unzipped a 2nd folder downloaded within, and also I'd
not downloaded WinRar and used that. (How was I to know ??!!)

Anyroadup, the game now works brilliantly, BUT......

I can't save games !!

I get a pop-up saying 'autosave failed', & when I try to save a game a
game at any stage, all I get is the saved game box, with drives C and D
shown, but no dir's in them (plenty of space on the hd.) Tried to click
on the drive, but nothing opens.

More bright ideas welcome !

Many festives & A Happy Noo Wotsits !!

Do you have administrator rights (or at least write rights) to that
drive/directory?
I have no problem whatsoever with this thing.
