Transport Giant is out - and it sucks

Post by Peter J. Dobrovka »

The main difficulty of a game shouldn't be the handling of the
userinterface. But in this case...

If you ever find out how to create a schedule or buy a train without
tutorial/help you are good. Anyway, even if you know it you are still bound
to those damned arrow-buttons to select a vehicle or a good.

If you have built something do not forget to click on the ok-button. Closing
the panel in another way will make everything disappear again. And therefore
never touch the right mouse button - it closes dialogs and panels.

Unfortunately there are no height levels in the game. You may build bridges
and tunnels anyway to cross obstacles, but the lack of height is a poor
thing and makes the maps somewhat boring.

No signalling system. It has been promised in a patch, but...

No 45 degree tracks.

Just tried the demo and its terrible! It starts with horses and carts - if
you can find out how to actually obtain them. I hope TTDL2 (Locomotion) has
a better interface. I dont think I'll be getting it any time soon.

I can't even figure out where the help- and tutorial system is located in
the interface. Can you help me find it?

The first demo I've heard from (on a german gamenews-site) was the
english one... don't know, if it actually was the first.
Whatever - tomorrow I'll take a ride in the city for the full version...

It's mostly the same method as used in the predecessor game, Traffic Giant.
first construct a road/track (if it's not already there), then construct
depots, then buy vehicles, then assign the vehicles to the routes. The
website has a FAQ with a description. Once you understand the principle,
it's not so difficult any more.
If you have built something do not forget to click on the ok-button.
Closing
the panel in another way will make everything disappear again.
That's a pain, yes.
And
therefore
never touch the right mouse button - it closes dialogs and panels.
In principle a good idea (a sort of panic button), unfortunately it's
counter-intuitive because so many other apps use the right button in
another way.
Unfortunately there are no height levels in the game. You may build
bridges
and tunnels anyway to cross obstacles, but the lack of height is a poor
thing and makes the maps somewhat boring.
I've only seen the demo, so I can't judge this.

No 45 degree tracks.
That's unfortunate indeed.

So? I thought that was pretty nice, actually.
if you can find out how to actually obtain them.
Look at the FAQ I mentioned before. You have to buy the vehicles first (in
the topmost menu), then you can assign them to routes.

What really bugs me about the demo is that it keeps crashing on me.

The game looks quite good to me actually. Only this
you-have-to-confirm-everything-you-build thing is a drag.

There isn't any. But there are some FAQ's on the website.

just played the demo. And i wonder, if you make a game the same kind of
TTDX, i think to promote the game you would at least put trains in the demo.
Or is the train system in TG so bad it would be negative promotion.
Furthermore, this game seems to have the same problem as TTDX : it is hard
to loose money (but i have to admit, i played at easy level), but i never
got to a point i couldn't buy what i wanted too...
Anyway, i think ill stay with TTDX for a while

What a heap of utter crap.

I think they had us fooled for a bit there - what with all te tech specs etc.
But they failed to mention that the whole game is utter rubbish!
