you need the grf codec wich you can find here:
http://www.ttdpatch.net/tools.html#grfcodec
you can use the grfwizzard with the codec to give it a nice GUI (the
user interface) you can find that here:
http://www.divxland.org/ttd/grfwizard.htm
With the codec you can decode and encode the grf files. If you decode
them you will get a pcx file, wich you can edit with your new sprites.
You should do this with a graphics editor that can handle pcx files with
a pallet like I-mage : http://www.memecode.com/image.php . Ofcourse
other programs will work too. mspaint won't work though becouse it cant
handle palets.
I sugest you decode the trg1r.grf this file contains all main ttd
sprites. There you can see the sizes.
To make sprites on your own I suges you read the wiki, wich can be found
here: http://wiki.ttdpatch.net/tiki-index.php ... nsDetailed .
Trouble is it isnt complete yet. It describes how the .NFO files work
that company the pcx files. Those nfo file's can be complicated
especialy if you want to make use of "calbacks" for for example trains.

there is a tutorial in the pipeline here:
http://wiki.ttdpatch.net/tiki-index.php ... RFTutorial But
unfortunately george and I are the only one who have written anything
for it, so it isnt even close to being finished.

Hmm okey realy long mail, if you need more help (and I'm guesing you
will (I'm not in explaining these things as you might have noticed :P))
You can always mail me directly, or to this list ofcourse. Or you can
look on irc on the quakenet server for the #tycoon channel (if you got
an irc client installed irc://uk.quakenet.org/#tycoon )

Hmm way to long mail, totaly unorganized too. Hope any one understands
what I tried to explain, if not just ignore it :P

thanks for those who write on the wiki.
Like dave i am also intrested in creating grf's, and i am looking forward
for the tutorial to be finished, though the .nfo tuturiol is a little
difficult to understand (i will read it again SLOWLY, maybe it will help
:)).
BTW, i am also intrested in changing manager faces, the trg1r.grf file has
A LOT of sprite which are related to it, is there a way to create my own grf
file with some of my manager faces i like?
