Problem needing solved: Signals

Post by Jagged_bacon »

Although it's not a problem for some, it's a huge problem to me to have to sit in scenario editor and select the signals/bridges/stations not appear in game as some of them had before. It ruins some of the glorious mods that I have with the nice signal boxes that are there. Quick note: I have no bloody idea how to edit a track.st file, so please do not ask me to because my computer is just being a prick. Can anyone help with this problem? Thanks, and Merry Christmas :D

Are you asking for a way to avoid selecting all your signals/bridges/stations in scenario editor every time you create a new scenario? You can do this by creating a new region with everything you want selected by default. EDS did this with his valuables mod. Creating a new region is pretty easy, just copy a build-in region (example: REGUS), open with Loco-Tool, and add more of these to the XML:
<useobject desc="default[10]" class="10">SIGCUS </useobject>

You can also add locomotives/rolling stock/trucks whatever!

Creating a new region is similar to editing the trackst.dat file, so you may run into the same problem...
All you should need is Loco-Tool and some text editor like notepad.

Or maybe I completely missed what you are asking, your question was a little confusing :?:

Actually, and surely surprisingly, that isn't what I mean. My overall larger problem is selecting the signals in scenario perfectly fine, then the signal boxes, specialized gantries, etc, are all deselected once I go in-game to my then created scenario. Then when I go to edit the scenario, everything is selected but not in game. I could see how I should have reworded that, my apologies.

Here's what I think is probably happening:

You have all the right dat files for the signals, gantries, etc. in the right directory. The scenario editor is recognizing them and letting you select them.

But, and here's the big but.

Those dat files aren't in your tractst.dat file. When the game is running, the trackst.dat file tells the game what track graphics to use, what signals to use, what stations to use, etc. You need to use loco_tool.exe to edit your trackst.dat file and add the signals, etc., you want to use.

There's some tutorials here on how to add things to trackst.dat; it's that common of a problem.

Actually doing the editing sounds daunting at first, but it's actually pretty easy. Make a back up of your original trackst.dat file, go slow, and voila, you'll have it.

Good luck, and Happy New Year.

@Jagged-Bacon If you are a little further with Illegal Alien's basic tutorial, you can also use my topic for advanced methods to build up your own TRACKST.DAT. You'll find it here: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=49943 It sure is a lot of reading and trying, but it's worth it !

Good Luck !

Will do. I'll see what I can manage to fix. I'm reloading my computer soon anyway so this shouldn't be a problem. Thanks! :D
