new undercarrage details, new panto mounts, new roof details. moved pantos. air vents aded...


I picked up one of the rare HO metroliner models and copied the details to the model.

Call me wierd and strange... but can anyone besides me see Amtrak buying some of these to replace the P42's?

I'm not sure if they would keep the dual cab. Amtrak is a bit cheap for that luxury. I guess they could place the HEP there.

Bluebeetle: I used a RS3 to kick cars last week that didn't even have a toilet. The engineer (who is in his 70's) said toilets were "modern technology"

well. i just was wandering in my mind when i saw it... I thought it looked amtraky.

As far as i know Amtrak is not looking for anything to buy right now.. They are just coming up on the second major overhaul of the P42's giving them another 5-10 years before the end of the line.

They Do not like the MPI units (actually many people dont). One big problem is they are really tall for a locomotive. Metro North and Cdot looked at them a year or 2 ago. they don't fit under the wire on the NEC. GE / EMD didn't offer a unit at that time. Both bought Brookville BL20GH's.

Amtrak did test the Brookville BL20GH. I don't know if they liked em or not. bottom line is, they are pretty much made on a one by one basis they could never make hundreds for Amtrak..

There definitely is history, it was built by MLW in 1954 and is the only CP RS3 left in existence
It has some quirks too, despite being chop-nosed the long hood is still front, messed everyone up when they wanted it to come ahead or go back when we were practicing switching

the only pic i saw was in the book "GE Evolution Locomotives" and it was an illustration. It looked like a P42, only uglier, much uglier
