cannot add Newgrf settings or new scenarios to game

i am an openttd fan. i have the game, but is unable to add new grf settings and new scenarios into my game. i tried many different blogs and post about how to add newgrf files, but non of them helped

About the grfs:
Put every grf file you want in the game in the DATA folder which is in your OpenTTD folder.
When done, you can enable them in "Newgrf Settings" in the main menu.

i tried that already, and it didn't work, but nonetheless thank you. i downloaded a lot of GRF files, but only one worked, and i don't know how it worked.
do you have any other suggestions which you would kindly give to me?

That's a pretty good description of how to add a new .grf. What Bennythen00b put should work.

My suggestion is to be more specific. Saying "it didn't work" is almost useless as it could mean lots of different things. What steps were you following and where did things change from how you expected them to be? Also, please mention which version of OTTD you are using, which GRFs did work, and which ones didn't.
