Town doubt

Hello, this is my first post, so here it goes:

At a determined time of my game, I selected on the interface options the roads to be built as 3x3, then I noticed my cities decreased in population. After I have red some topics here, I found out that choosing the roads to be "standart", the cities would grow again. My question is: JUST by selecting the standart option for road will make the cities grow to their previous size or do I have to destroy some already built roads?

Personally i use better roads because it leaves less bits of useless road.
but if your trying to get your cities back to normal, which by the way make be a feeble process, you should delete the buildings that block areas you feel should have road then possibly place some there. just keep in mind that every time you knock something down, it costs both money and and town rating.
