Q: Signals in front of double stations

Post by windsor »

First: See attached screenshot.

The incomming Jinty is heading for Icicle Springs South but since the station is occupied it should wait for the other train to leave before entering the junction. If I use one station with two tracks rather than two stations the Jinty would choose the free track or wait if none are free, but then I wouldn't get full production from industries. So how do I prevent the Jinty from blocking the junction when using two stations?

I know it's two stations. That's no "whoops" but to get 100% production.

Well, that's what's doing it then, the presignal sees a free exit so the train goes through, presignals won't differentiate where the exit goes to.

set waypoints.
tell one loco to go to station "A" and one to go to station "B".

another thing you can try. make the exit to the main line a double signal also.

in this case, that would stop the train from blocking the junction.
North American sets and then some...

Besides, your left station is too far from the powerplant or factory.
(more than 4 squares), so it will not make profit.

chevyrider, you're quite right. Didn't notice, but I only made this particular junction/station to demonstrate this problem that have been bothering me in some games where I haven't found space for ROROs.

To bad pre-signals don't differentiate where the exits go, it would have been more logical if they only showed green when the correct route was clear.

I found the easiest solution was to add an extra junction, but it's certainly no optimal solution.

In this case i make ro-ro's comming from the left with a half circle.
They just que and the platforms are always occupied with loading trains.
You don't even have to give them orders then, atleast i hardly ever do.
(need a lot of trains for this).

its because, as some of the others said, you have to tell them to go to station 1 and 2 instead both of them go to station 1.

Why?
If you have enough trains the platforms can be filled always, so rating rises.
Not needed to give orders for these stations , cause all trains will stop here.
If you have different destinations, you can always make a waypoint on the way back.

On the screenshot are two stations one beside the other ("Icicle Springs", "Icicle Springs South"). If both (or more) trains are ordered to one of the stations (i.e. "Icicle Springs South") they will always block the block before station. So the other Station could'n be entered by another train. With a RoRo layout and an earlier splitting of the lines the layout should be in function.

Sigh, you guys have to learn a lot still.
With the enthusiasts of the beginning (4 years ago) we already found out what was the best solution to get the highest rates out of an industry.

Psst: Best is 2X3 track stations at the industry.(Ro-ro of course)
