LocoTool Error: OTHER SCREEN?!

Post by LE5100 »

I just installed Locotool from WiSim Welt (that was also suggested here) and when I open it, it shows me a white window named LocoTool V0.4.3b - Copyright by Josef Drexler and I can NOT drag my .dat files there. In the window it says:

Usage: locotool [options] <dat-file|xml-file>

Options:
-p <num>: choose company colours
-d: make .dat file for demo version
-o <path>: set base name for png files
-q: fail quietly (no error messages)
-s: put all sprites in a single PNG file
-u: output all <unknown> entries, even if they are zero
-b: omit defined bits that are not set

And there's an OK button. When I press it the window disappears, and I wait like 10 minutes and nothing happens.
If this helps you:
OS:Windows 10
CPU: Intel Core i5 M 460 @2.53 GHz
GPU: nVidia GeForce GT325M CUDA 1 GB GDDR5
RAM: 4 GB
It's a laptop.
Please HELP ME!!! ?( ?( :?: :?: :?:

The result you listed should only happen if you double-click on Locotool.exe. If you drag a .dat file and drop it on the icon, it should produce an .xml file and a folder of images, both with the same name as the original file (e.g. trackst.dat will produce trackst.xml and a folder called trackst). Nothing will happen to the original file when you do this.

If you do this directly in your Objdata folder, then you should look at the bottom of the folder for the .xml and images folder. I would recommend copying the file you'd like to alter and pasting it somewhere without so much clutter so you don't lose track of everything, however.

tl;dr drag the .dat file onto Locotool.exe itself :P

Depends on what you're trying to edit. If you're changing little details about one object e.g. invention date, obsolete date, max speed, usually you can find those values in the code just by looking. Other details can be found on the Locomotion Wiki. The most useful page there is the list of all known variables.

If you're looking to add signals or stations to railroad track or road, consult the sticky at the top of this forum.

There's a tool for that specifically, as a matter of fact. Search for Wrapper for Locotool.

You'll see in the sticky that it tells you to open the file with notepad. Then you can edit it like a text document but it will still be recognized as an .xml document.
