read the discription of the video and look.
In this clip you can see all you have to do to run extreem long trains.
I play on the redone Soldier Summit map, as example we run a coal train with 54, 34ton coal hoppers and a caboose, its pulled by a Bigboy and a UP4-12-2 and mid train we have the same set, so 4 locomotives in total, i found out that long heavy trains run better with the locomotives spread over the train instead off having them at front. It depends on the weight of the locomotives, 8 K4 steam engines are no problem, but 4 Bigboys ll not do it, unless you spread them over the train.

Normaly you cant put a train this long on the tracks, so in have build a underground "set-up" track, as you can see its fairly twisted and much longer then the train, on this set-up track the game allows only one spot to put the train on the track, if you do the same but you still cant put your train on the track your set-up track is not long or twisted enough.

Then i show what happens if a train like this gets on a strait track, it ll stall, running at 0 km/h. So this means that you have to build you track system in a way that there is no strait track longer than 28 tiles, it ll do 30 tile but with pain, i only use 30 tile at stations.
This doesnt count for diagonal layed track, that can be as long as the train is.

After our train is loaded we ll follow it over soldier summit to its destination at Provo steelmill. Its not making any profit due to the long travel time. During the ride you ll have a clear view on how i build the system to handle these trains.

Have fun

Make sure it fits in the station, too.

Actually, it doesn' t matter if the train fits in the station or not. It just means that there are slightly longer loading/unloading times. It works for me.

Let me revise that:

If you have a two-way track, make sure it fits all the way on the platform.

Also, after 10-20 wagons, loading will get much slower.

Agree, but I'm sure people here are not so stupid to have a station that's say seven tiles long and having a train approaching that has 10 - 20 wagons. of course the loading/unloading times will be longer. As for the type of track, it makes no difference if it is one way or two way. The placement of the signals would be of importance.
