OTTD Lexicon - What does [expression] mean?

Post by wallyweb »

Ever come across a term or expression that baffles you or incurs the unexplained wrath of the Gods if you used it incorrectly?
Try these links first:
OpenTTD Wiki
The #openttdcoop Wiki - Glossary

Still can't find what you are looking for?
Then please post your question here in the hopes that somebody will reply with a proper definition.
This will reduce divergent discussion in topics that authors wish to keep on focus.
Just a couple of simple rules ...
1. No arguments: Keep it peaceful. Remember that some expressions may have more than one definition. "Also" is a word that can resolve a lot of differences of opinion.
2. Be considerate: Not knowing or being aware of something is neither ignorance nor stupidity. It is just a simple need of compassionate guidance.

I have two expressions to start off this topic:

Trunk - In all my years on these forums I always assumed that a stable release and a nightly release shared residence in trunk. I was wrong.
Stable is not trunk. It is simply stable.
Nightlies are trunk, a release not yet sufficiently in use to be declared as stable.
With the recent move to github, "trunk" has become "master".

Master - See Trunk above.

Static - Andrew350 composed an excellent article here.

Good question. The bad answer is I don't know. Could you post the link and I'll insert it in the top of the first post with a note to look there first.

How about the entire OpenTTD Wiki? (I think this is what Eddi was referring to)

Also, as it happens I just made a post in another topic about static NewGRFs: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=83957&p=1214136#p1214136
