If the transportation company can use busses why should we not have cars?

1) Why is this in the development forum instead of the suggestions forum?
2) It's already possible to make a newgrf that has cars instead of busses.
3) What is the point of cars?

It's not only possible, there already is (at least) one. Doing a quick search in TTDPatch Graphics and OpenTTD Graphics forum should find it.

Letting the OpenTTD world look more vivid? When I first saw the car NewGRF, I wondered if a NoAI just letting cars drive through the towns for eyecandy purposes wouldn't be a nice thing.

I was thinking about taxis recently. Basically a single tile with a fairly large catchment area making money depending on the number of "houses" accessible by road from that location. If any train station is within the catchment area of the taxi office, it boosts passenger numbers at that station.

It's one of those things that might be nice, but is never going to be a priority (and by that, I mean that it's only going to happen if someone who wants it takes it upon themself to add it)

but the cars itself wouldn't be company owned.
You could just buy a car dealership.
It would sell:
Taxi (can be company owned): 2-4 passengers
Car: 2-8 passengers
Mail Van: (can be company owned) 5-8 Bags of mail
Delivery Van: (can be company owned) 5-10 Goods

who would it sell them to? What would the interface for selling them be? Where would they fit, would they be depots, stations, industries? How would it work?

This game is about transporting goods though, not selling them. In fact, where would you get the cars from to sell at a car dealership? If you're thinking about the vehicles you're transporting if you're using ECS vectors, you're missing one critical fact here: You never own those cars. You are only paid for transporting them.
