Rent stations from another player

I would recommend a renting system, so when I play with other people/AI, I can rent stations from them for the price of them taking a part of my profit.
So, for example, if a competitor has an Airport, and I have a train station nearby, I can run a bus service between them for maybe 10% of my profit on that line.
I think this would add a layer of cooperation to competitive gameplay.

There is a game patch, known as Infrastructure Sharing, which effectively does such a thing. It will likely not be added to the core OpenTTD program (it still has some bugs and some unresolved feature issues), but it can be found in a few popular patch packs.

There's exactly the thing you'd like on the Infrastructure Sharing patch.
It's precompiled and ready to launch in JGR's patchpack, you can find it here : viewtopic.php?f=33&t=73469
Please note that this version is NOT compatible with other versions of OpenTTD - you will be able to play with friends only if they also install JGR's Patch Pack.
However, you can choose to share train stations, bus stops, loading bays, docks and airports to all players and you can charge them a fee of any amount of money you want if they want to stop in your stations, airports, etc.

Almost. The fee can be any amount set, but it is set in the global game settings, not per-player. You can enable or disable which infrastructure can be shared, and if companies who are in debt can access shared infrastructure (and incur more debt).

Also, the fees that can be charged:
Daily track toll per trains: $xxx per 1000 tons
Stopping fee for road vehicles: $xxx per day
Docking fee for ships: $xxx per day
Terminal fee for aircraft: $xxx per day.

Yeah, thanks for correction. This being said, I know there has been development for people to allow competitors company-by-company, as well as setting a fee per-company.
