Subway tunnels

Post by Villem »

This would be like laying normal train tracks, expect the tunnel would go / then at end of tunnel it would go \ ,that way we can get tunnels inside cities(ya gotta lay whole tunnel at once thou), without exavating land.

like this

Code: Select all

If it's possible it would be great, but I doubt if it's possible.

OpenTTD will probably be able to do it...

Just like dragging a bridge but instead it builds a tunnel.

I like the idea.

I think Subway tunnels is interresting for towns...
About water, usually there are no town directly built on water, so you can use bridge for that.

It could be useful to let a bridge cross a tunnel, because bridges can't cross bridges.

This is hard to do because there aren't room to store it in the current memory allocation for each tile. If that have to change, the savegame format have to change as well

It's not impossible, but I'm sure it will NOT be in the next release

f*** the savegame format, f*** the compatibility! OpenTTD is an independent and new game, I don' t want to miss a thing just because being compatible :!:

Humm... You're french, so you should ever gone to Paris... In paris, there are 43 bridges on the Seine, AND there is at least 10 tunnels under !

Just counting metro :
- Line 1 (one tunnel - near "La Défense")
- Line 6 (one tunnel)
- Line 8 (one tunnel and maybe a second - not sure)
- Line 13 (one tunnel)
- Line 4 (2 tunnel each side of Island "La cité / Notre Dame)
- Line 7 (one tunnel)
- Line 14 (one tunnel)
-----------
7 tunnels

For RER :
- Line C (one tunnel)
- Line B (one tunnel)
- Line D (one tunnel)
- Line A (one tunnel - near "La Défense")
----------------
4 tunnels

And I don't speak about road tunnels

You xan check it out here :

London should be the same, because of the Tamise. I think all cities with subways and crossed by a river should hane many tunnels as well ;)

That was not what I said. I said it needs some work (read time from developers)
Other stuff like multiplayer have higher priority

I know there are some in Copenhagen and I'm pretty sure that there have to be some in New York as well, othervise the subway station(s) on manhatten have a pretty short line

But there are tunnels under water for long distance trains too. Just think of the tunnel between England and France or the tunnel between Denmark and Sweden

BTW: it's spelled "Thames", not "Tamise"

yes yes, I know, you have everything in paris... even undersea... hum...

but you spoke about river in fact (at lyon, we have two rivers for the same price! :) ).

I was speaking about sea...
As far as I saw, I didn't see so much river thru towns in [O]TT[D].
I think town are yet quite small, I hope there won't be any river in the future .. :)

So without river in town, there are less sens for that :)

PS: thanks for the map, quite nice ;)

PPS : in fact I was wrong, the chanel (between UK and FR) is a good example of undersea tunel... but it's rare...

Paree is it prounounced for you?

I like the subay suggestion, but maybe a RCT/simcity series style underground view for viewing them, stations can just be plazas with stairs and then underneath how many platforms etc.
