As initial subject is quite abandonned, I have just one small question about how english spell some words.

Code: Select all

French English
Tour Eiffel Eiffel tower
Arc de Triomphe Triumph Arch (??)
Scacré Chœur Sacré Chrœur or Crowned chorus ???
Avenue de la Grande Armée Strong army avenue ?
Champs Elysées Elysées fields ?
Yes, because in Paris there is a lot of tourists and most of theim speak english.
But when I try to explain to lost guys how to find their way, they generally seems sceptic, so I think we don't use same names for the monuments/avenues.

Hmm, well, this is what I call those things:

Code: Select all

French English
Tour Eiffel Eiffel Tower
Arc de Triomphe Arc de Triomphe
Scacré Chœur Sacré Chœur
Avenue de la Grande Armée Avenue de la Grande Armée
Champs Elysées Champs Elysées
Everything apart from the Eiffel Tower we use the French for.

Ah ok :) That explains a lot why they never understand me when I show their path to tourists LOL

Don't you mean Sacré Cœur (cœur=heart)? Or is that another thing I've been getting wrong all these years? :)

I've heard a place referred to as the "Elysee Fields", or "Elysium Fields", but it's definitely not the "Elysee Fields Avenue" over here.
Also, in English, Versailles has a Palace.
