Detailed Inflation

Post by Wasila »

I searched this, but couldn't find anything about it. Could we have a meter to show us the rate of inflation? I take it that it's a fluctuating rate but if so it would be nice (perhaps under finances) to see what the rate is. Would it be possible to occasionally get deflation? Or an economic crisis with extra high inflation?

Also, unrelated, but what does the 'Other' costs on the finances screen involve? I usually spend about £300 there but I don't know what it's for.

Other includes things like tree purchases as well as when you bribe towns / build stuff in them.
I think theres a "standing charge" that you always get charged too, or at least I always seem too. That may be the £300 you noticed.

You always spend £300 every year, and not many people seem to know why that is there.

Regarding inflation, the rate is the same every year: whatever the interest rate is. Inflation also stops after 170 years.

About "Other" I can tell - every action which was made in the screen of the city "management" (Small advertising, Fund new buildings and so on), funding new industry, building trees and buying/selling shares from the competitors goes through this section. As for the monthly payment in the "other" section, I think that are wages or just the one salary for the company president/player...

The president gets one lousy salary then..

Plus if you cooperate, you have to share your salary with all your co-managers

Interesting, but any comments on the inflation itself?

Apart from what Conditional Zenith wrote? That the inflation rate is the same all along the game up until 170 years after game start?
I do not see what more to comment on.
Having it on the company's or economical window? Pretty boring to see a digit that would never change, don't you think?

By the way, due to the way we are doing things, inflation rate cannot go higher than 5% (iirc). You do understand that doing fluctuation based on that kind of bracket (0 - 5%) is pretty much useless.
If you are not ready to work a bit for your ideas, it means they don't count much for you.
OpenTTD and Realism? Well... Here are a few thoughs on the matter.

I'm not sure you understand. The inflation rate is a constant throughout the entire game. The 0-5% range is just what OTTD could handle internally without major code changes. With the current implementation, the inflation rate will be the same as the interest rate every year for the first 170 years, and then 0 after that. The interest rate is set in the "difficulty" window, and doesn't change throughout the game.
