larger airport and some new features.

Got an idea for OpenTTD? Post it here!

I'm looking at it right now. There is really three big parts at implementing custom airports :
1) get general designs
2) implement the different routes and orders the planes would follow
3) code everything in C

I have done 1), I'm beginning 2) and hopefully, I will be able to do 3).
So, I would say : keep finding designs, who knows, someone might be interested and jump in...

how ever big you make a "FIXED" airport it will always be to small.
Then maybe the airport isnt the problem?

Seems that designing an airport big enough to simply drop in the middle of a 30k city and expect it to handle that amount of traffic is just silly imo. Certainly the current airports could use improvements, but not to the exclusion of other transport methods.

it's http://darkvater.openttd.org/airports/airports.html
I moved it cause there'll probably not only be airports there. If you just go to http://darkvater.openttd.org/airports you can browse the directory where all the images, etc. are.

agree.
better to have the parts (runways, taxiways (like roads), helipads, terminals etc...) and compose each airport by your own.
it's easier to expand the airport too.
must the space be limited?

IMO must be limited the lenght of takeoff and landing lanes and their number and maybe terminals and hangars

It would be good with a high limit then.
like max 8 runways, 10 helipads etc per customized airport.

I ment if there must be a limit of how many squares the whole airport can use. Can't it be enough with limitations on the parts?

Would be great.
Just that I don't see how the movement of the planes could be graphically represented as well as coded...

Well My planes are earning 3 times more then my 80 trains so I donøt know. I think u should try using more planes, and see how fast u can make money on them.... 8)

I think the bigest problems are not how many runways there is on the airport but ow the airport isdesigned and how many planes can be at the airport in the same times..

IF some one can make a airport there is on runway in and one out and make a in and out tax way where the planes can be placed in queue will solve the problem.

It will the be a like international airport but have more capacity and be more effective..

Not entirely true. Doubling the runways would allow the planes to land more often, thus not circle around. Circling means more time to travel, thus less profit...
A high speed plane always outrun a slower one. With two, it will land right away. Well.. that is what I think..

Now, that is a really good point. I have to agree with you. In fact I have just started such a design. But the buffering areas have to be well placed. Eventually, we would be able to test that theory :)

I'd like to know more about Luca's heliports. If he is no longer working on that, I'd like to take it over and possibly think about some new airports

He just needed to draw some state machines and whatnot like at http://darkvater.openttd.org/airports/ and see if Darkvater could do anything. That was the last thing I heard. He did get the company colour problem fixed however.
