For all of you, who want to build an airport of tiles, I suggest rying out the OTTD-version of simutrans. There you have to make all airports by your own custom layout. (see the simutrans part of the forum.)

In Simutrans?

This is some basic rules:

You need loading bay to allow the aircraft to get passangers/goods
You need a terminal building
You need a control tower.
You can not have a taxiway at the end of a runway!
You need a passanger stop, or a truck loading bay to accept either passanger or goods. Or the both of them.

http://www.forum.simutrans.com/

You can find some rules for airports there!
Just make a search!

it was hard to figure out where it would be allowed to build, for instance a tower, when the error message appeared all the time.
hm. I don't know...
maybe it's still better with fixed airports. and if there would be like 8-10 different ones with different sizes it would be great, for me at least.
maybe we should make a poll:
fixed or customized airports for ottd?
crossed runways.

Couldn't it be done by making the airport really small ,with only one runway, one terminal and a depot, and then allow building many of them in the same station? Maybe it would look strange, but at least it makes airports exandable.

well i say we need an airport that can move 6,000 passengers a mounth. so thats 200 (darwin 300)planes a monuth need to land there.
If we do that i don`t think we will EVER need a bigger one.
But i do think we need custom airport. every one has there own idea how an airport should be built. (eg i DO NOT want crossed runways)

Don't say 'we don't need any bigger' :P

Some people expected England would have in the future about 3 computers, i think there are today some houses with atleast 3 computers.... we first all had a 56k modem... what do we now have? ADSL? 100mbit lines(sweden is a good example)? And so on.... you get my point? :P

Bill Gates famously said that he couldn't see any reason to need more than 640k of ram. I bet he still has trouble sleeping when he thinks about that one. ;)

If we do't nee bigger airports, then perhaps we don't need bigger stations either. And bigger trains? Nah. Bigger screen resolution? Why bother? Isn't everyone satisfied with 640x480? And forget those new graphics, new map array and... bigger maps. Who wants bigger maps?

Personally I'd like the ability to build custom airports. I'm waiting with patience. It'll come eventually. :)

OW I need badly a bigger airort.
I am prioducing over 9 000 crates of Goods just from a Saw mill and I have a factory and all goods are from the same station and airport.

Building railways to all destination will teake me many days.

the problem is that Too many planes want to land at the same time and I havevery big queue to the airport.

There is not a problem if the planes come one ofter one, but it never happends.

So please. Could somone create a mutch bigger airport then international airport or can I som how build multiple airport (next to eachother) like train stations or bus stops?

why... instead of enlarging airports, why wouldn't you guys just implement train station combining for airports too?

The thing is, it would be easier to implement if you had an airport, connect it with a train station to another airport far outside of the city? that will enable many airports to act as one...

Its more realistic as most airports are enlarged by extending an existing one with one or more station parts. heard of skytrains? its possible to have 1 airport station near the city to gather resources and use a skytrain to transport those passengers somewhere else where land is cheaper...

maybe you can say 3 airport parts linked together is max... shouldn't be too hard to implement...
Come on people! Concentrate on merging ttdpatch into openttd!
Please spare a thought for those not on M$!

It is possible to combine railway stations to each other as a unit.
Why so few airports combined into one station still can not (forbidden)?

The reverse sequence of occupation terminals when the plane moves from hangar to the terminal. So better (faster), because the last terminal is closer to the hangar than the first terminal at most airports.

mainly, the way the holding loops and the approach to runways works needs to be changed for multiple airports to work as one station.

also, this thread is ancient, you should probably have started a new thread.

One can add and lengthen railway platforms or road vehicle bays to existing stations, but there's no way to add more runways, terminals,or hangars to an existing airport.
