City in sub-tropical climate getting smaller and smaller [1.9.0-RC1]

Post by knedle »

Hi!
I've noticed strange behavior. One of my cities - despite being supplied food, water and passengers, keeps getting smaller and smaller (meaning the population count is going down).

Is that a bug or is that a feature?

I've noticed there is already RC2, however I think the bug is still relevant as there is no mention of fixing it in the change log.

Have you changed the road layout fo your town recently ?
Do you know that the road tile in the center must be kept at its place, and otherwise your city will shrink ?

The default houses in both Arctic and Tropic tend to replace the entire town center with populationless statues and fountains when a town first starts to grow, so yes, it's a "feature" dating back to TTD.

You can actually move the 'seed' road tile of towns, by a few tiles. I don t know the exact distance, but that possibility is in Openttd since quite a few version already.

Well, on recent games with Cindini, using TTRS, I noticed that the "center tile" of Capitola wasn't a road tile. And it appears that if you let TTRS replace default houses, if you don't put a road in the center tile, Capitola is going to shrink.

That's interesting. Have been playing OpenTTD for quite some time and didn't know about that. :)
