i am having OpenTTD problems: One with the game, one with NewGRF's.

I want to play a downloaded heightmap or have NightGRF on. How would I do this? By the way, I am on Chromebook using Crostini, some form of Linux. When I try to download the game though, I either get version 1.4.0 (which I cant use for multiplayer) or I cannot download at all. Please help I am confuse.
