I've been playing recently 1.52 Open TDD, which I was playing many, many times 2-3 years ago and I've noticed that trains have problems with track reservation.
Problem is: If I have one way signal, and several tracks free, train will not enter station until there is another train. It seems that train is reservationg all tracks :/
I never had such issue and trains were always choosing free path without waiting.
here is SS:
Thanks you in advance for help!

Re: Track reservation problem
you need signals at the end of each platform.
Re: Track reservation problem
I am 100% sure I never used them earlier and train always find its track. If I put signals at end of platform things get messy and train often stuck :/
Re: Track reservation problem
you must have imagined that setup "working", because it doesn't, and signal behaviour hasn't changed in many many years now.
in IT jargon we call this a "schrödingbug", when you take a closer look and find out that something never should have worked.
PS: we have 1.8.0 now, maybe you want to update after 3 years

Re: Track reservation problem
Perhaps I am rusty and I made my stations different then now, but I never saw train awaiting another train leaving station - and that I am certainly sure. In other topic, somewhere on this forums I have read that station has signal block build - and as far I remember, stations acted that way - if Train arrived it never blocked track ahead, so other trains could easily arrive at station. I don't have any saved game but I will download versions 1.2 to see if thats the matter (well, I might have played back in 2010 or so...).
EDIT: Well, yo are right - I was building them in different setup (all stations w/o block signals) and just tested mentoined 1.3.2 - works the same way as now.

Re: Track reservation problem
Stations only have a "signal" when its the terminus station, with stations that have tracks on both sides you need to have Path based signals on each end of a station to allow trains to reserve the track while allowing other trains to pass through or reserve a empty track.

Re: Track reservation problem
Stations NEVER "have a signal"
Trains act like they have a signal when they turn around. that's why you get away with not having signals on terminus stations. the train entering the station will still have to reserve a track until the next signal [or the end of the track]. which is why they get stuck in the above situation
