Better Junction ?

Post by acs121 »

Hi,

How could i make a better junction and better station like in the attached files ?
I want to keep exterior and interior tracks as segregated as possible in the junction.
The station needs to be 5 tiles long - longest train calling is 5 tiles so it's logic.

Hi,

for the station, I found no good solution without destroying houses or roads.

But there are some things I would change at the junction, without destroying houses.
The problem I see with your junction is, that too many paths are crossing, which don't need to cross. For example the path from SW to NE and the path from SE to SW. With just a little more terraforming you get rid of this problem.
I don't really understand, what you did in the NW corner. I simplified the corner to a, what I think, more efficient way.

I'm no specialist on this and I didn't test it. But maybe it helps.
Greetings,
Lorenzo

Destroying everything is not a problem as long as the solution exists, except in some cases. I have the Magic Bulldozer cheat on.
I applied the junction, and it works really great. Thanks.

Oh Ok. In this case, I would do something like this:

I would also suggest rotating the station entirely so it's entered from the "south" (lower left corner of screen) - you don't need that diagonal entry which narrows down so much.

For the junction, just think of making freeway/motorway junctions. Here are some inspiration.

I solved the junction problem. But for the station, even with Magic Bulldozer on, i can't destroy all this area :

You don't need to demolish that much. Here's some drawings.

RoRo is an option, though it's not really "realistic" (you almost never see a "terminus" station in RoRo style IRL). However, you do have the corridor to do so.

EDIT : If you're playing multiplayer, that's not going to be an easy call. But at least try getting the entry for the station or the no. of platforms improved, they don't seem to be adequate currently.

Oh, i see now. Ro-Ro allows of course a better input (trains leave quickly and don't disrupt circulation) but the 3rd rail line does not have even one service track to the main line - it will be quite hard to do Ro-Ro then.

Horizontal tracks may improve, as you say, number of tracks, which will be necessary.
