How to install OpenTTD 1.7.2 on Ubuntu 16.04

As an Ubuntu newbie I had problems installing OpenTTD 1.7.2.
Problems were:
Installation from the Ubuntu Software List installs an old version
Installing the recent version via the terminal requires me to install libicu52
Libicu52 was not available and had to be installed manually

After all, nothing was really hard, but as I read A LOT of similar problems, I think its time for a short how-to:
