Hi.
In my OpenTTD 1.7.1 on Linux: Debian "Jessie"
My sound effects do not work. Music does. I have downloaded them with the ingame downloader. (After not working I also downloaded them manually and it still doesn't work.)
I have read a lot and I also had some help on the webchat. So I summarize what I already checked.
I checked with "openttd -v" whether driver and sound set is loaded:
List of sounds sets: OpenSFX
List of sound drivers: sdl: SDL Sound Driver
______
"openttd -s sdl"
Still does not work
______
I selected OpenSFX in the menu and the slider is set correctly. Although the ingame volume slider has no effect on the volume of the music.
______
It is not the bug from https://bugs.openttd.org/task/5807 as I can't reproduce it.
______
"openttd -d driver=9 -d misc=9"
It loads the sound files.
dbg: [misc] Found dir in tar: opensfx-0.2.3/
dbg: [misc] Found file in tar: opensfx-0.2.3/opensfx.obs (9356 bytes, 1024 offset)
dbg: [misc] Found file in tar: opensfx-0.2.3/opensfx.cat (13128144 bytes, 11264 offset)
and the line
dbg: [misc] Loading sound effects...
is there 3 times.
______
Would be great to have some assistance for my problem. Maybe it is something in the audio setup on linux, but I don't know what as the music does work.
OpenSFX does not work.

Re: OpenSFX does not work.
Perhaps music and effects are split onto different channels in your OS audio system?
At Least mine had different settings for different kinds of sound

Being a retired OpenTTD developer does not mean I know what I am doing.
Re: OpenSFX does not work.
It works. I tried many things with the sound driver, (installing also a new one). Thanks for the help. Still don't know why one worked and the other not but I don't care anymore .
