Different kind of replacing vehicles problem

Good eeeeeeeeeevening.

I'm having a problem with the auto renewal of road vehicles and I wondered if anyone could help please.
I must say first that I'm aware of the "Autorenew vehicle when it gets old" setting in the advanced settings, and I DO want it switched off. However;

With planes I have no problem auto renewing - click on planes;
click on manage list
click on replace vehicles
click on a plane from the left panel
choose a plane from the right panel
and finally click start replacing vehicles

All good - it works (although why you can't choose the same model of plane is bugging me. Any ideas?)


The main issue however is with road vehicles;
click on manage list
click on replace vehicles
click on a vehicle from the left panel
choose a vehicle from the right panel
start replacing vehicles is greyed out

The new vehicle (right panel) is more modern than the one being replaced, and IS available according to the list of available vehicles. Why is the option to autoreplace greyed out?

Plenty of millions in the bank, so money not an issue.

Have you tried to press "Stop Replacing Vehicles" on the Reynard Mail Truck below the MPS Mail Truck? If I remember correctly, if it is already set to replace away from the vehicle you're trying to replace to, the game won't let it happen.

You can't choose the same vehicle as that is autorenew. When the vehicle reaches its maximum life and autorenew is enabled, it will visit a depot to be replaced with the same model.

Autoreplace is replacing one vehicle with another when it visits the depot.

It looks like you've already done a replacement of the Reynard Mail Truck, and the game won't let you swap to that model again until you finish that previous replacement. Just highlight the greyed-out "Reynard Mail Truck" in the left panel of the Replace window and select "Stop Replacing Vehicles". In general it's a good rule to always stop the replacement once you're done.
