The repositories aren't generally kept up to date. You can download the latest version for your OS at https://www.openttd.org/en/download-stable

Hope this helps :wink:

I too am having trouble installing the new version on Ubuntu.

I use this command because the repositories is slow to update.

sudo dpkg -i openttd-1.6.1-linux-ubuntu-trusty-amd64.deb

It errors out with this:

dpkg: regarding openttd-1.6.1-linux-ubuntu-trusty-amd64.deb containing openttd:
openttd conflicts with openttd-data
openttd-data (version 1.5.3-1) is present and installed.

Uninstalling version 1.5.3-1 does NOT help. I still get the same error.

you must uninstall also the "openttd-data" package, not only "openttd"

It shouldn't. What command do you enter to install?

Please show us what you see, what you do, what commands do you type, what happens, and why that is wrong to you.

"cannot install" is something like "after a 5 mile journey I ended up at the wrong spot". Not much to explain where you went wrong during the journey. If you give more details like "I picked that street, when left there because there was a sign, right after three blocks with the super market, and .. and at that point I didn't know what to do then any more", we can do try what you did, find out where the problem is, and point you in the right direction "nah, the super market was wrong you need to go one street further then ..."

After I removed everything just simply double clicked on the deb and tried to install.

Today I started over everything in terminal.
sudo apt-get autoremove openttd
Then I tried to install the game
sudo dpkg -i openttd-1.6.1-linux-ubuntu-trusty-amd64.deb
But it said libicu52 (>= 52~m1-1~) not availabe and cannot be installed...
So I googled and foud it here:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/pl/trusty/am ... 2/download
Simply installed it. Then the game too.
I could start the game, but it needed open gfx and the game offered me to download.
I did it aaand the game finally works :)

The key was the terminal to read and unerstand what was the program's problem.
Thanks for the help :)

saludos,

estoy tratando de instalar la última versión en linux Mint pero me arroja el siguiente mensaje;

~/Descargas $ gdebi openttd-1.7.2-linux-ubuntu-trusty-amd64.deb
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree

Reading state information... Done
No se puede instalar este paquete
Dependency is not satisfiable: libicu52 (>= 52~m1-1~)

no pude agregar la libreria libicu52, en el sistema esta la libicu55, que puedo hacer?
