new to openttd

Post by Henne »

hey,

I'm a big ttd fan played it years. now I'm getting into linux.
I can't find any more help about installing openttd. I copied the win files and did make && make install
the game installs but I can't start it.
./ttd is the start file right?
it says no available language packs

you need to have a lng file in your OTTD dir
during compileing, there are one compiled in the lang folder. If you want a different language, use this command in the trunk dir (same as the one with the makefile)

strgen/strgen lang/german.txt
replace german with the language you want

you need to copy the grf files as well. They are in the data folder and you don't have to compile them, just move/copy them

You also need the canalsw.grf, openttd.grf and signalsw.grf, which are in (path to openttd source)/data/

thank you for your help

I've seen people running this game on bigger resolutions than 640 x 480
how can I change it e.g. 1024 x 768

Go to "Game options" -> "Screen Resolution".
If that doesn't work (I don't know the Linux version), try starting it with "-r 1024x768".

I run the game in a window and then stretch it to a comfortable size...
that's the best thing about the resolutions =]

I do have a new problem.
everytime I quit ttd and want to restart it the language pack error comes up again, then I need to create the german.lng new and copy it into the main folder...
why is that?
