Lag when moving the map while zoomed out.

Lag when moving the map while zoomed out.
My PC is more than fast enough to handle Open TTD, yet if I unzoom a few levels and move around the map my framerate drops to something around 1FPS.
Is there a buffer or memory option I can modify for this?
Thanks,

Yep, in openttd.cfg: max_sprite_cache_size = 64
it is in MBytes

Could it be that this process is more CPU consuming than you imagine?
If you are not ready to work a bit for your ideas, it means they don't count much for you.
OpenTTD and Realism? Well... Here are a few thoughs on the matter.

Re: Lag when moving the map while zoomed out.
I gaming on secondary old comp (Sempron with 1 weak core) but don't see discribed problem. Yes, animations slows down runnign in "speed-mode". Without adv. animation and without trains in frame 1 month with TAB lasts several secs. With animation - is only bit faster from normal timespeed. But scroll is normal. And no sense, 64, 128 or 256 mb is set for sprite buffer.belugas wrote:Could it be that this process is more CPU consuming than you imagine?
So - old CPU not big problem at all...
Re: Lag when moving the map while zoomed out.
Judging whether the CPU is the cause of the problem is way more effective if you look at your task manager. If OpenTTD starts to use near 100% CPU (or 50% for dual core, or 25% for quadcore etc) then it is the problem.

Re: Lag when moving the map while zoomed out.
The cache size trick worked!! Thanks!
Re: Lag when moving the map while zoomed out.
How did you get it to work?
Every time I change to cache to a higher amount the game just changes it back to 64.

You can safely use 1.2 and forget about 1.1.5. Betas and RCs are not unstable or full of bugs!
Re: Lag when moving the map while zoomed out.
I'm using the Extra Zoom 32 bit graphics version.
I didn't see a version 1.2 for that.

Re: Lag when moving the map while zoomed out.
1.2.0 has extra zoom built-in. Albeit that RC1 doesn't load old style tar 32bpp graphics.

So, you only may wait for updates of Extra Zoom 32 bit graphics. Its curious - more detailed graphics need more memory but more memory we can have in version there no detailed graphics =)))PPT wrote:I'm using the Extra Zoom 32 bit graphics version.

Yes, OTTD now renders them on-the-fly...PPT wrote:Is it using the Blender files?FooBar wrote:1.2.0 has extra zoom built-in. Albeit that RC1 doesn't load old style tar 32bpp graphics.
