Trains don't go to service?

Trains don't go to service?
It seems that my trains just won't go to service.
It may happens that they go once... but never again after that. I have to keep telling them to go to depots.
The service interval is set to 150 days, as usual, for every train.
The same doesn't happen with my road vehicles. They regularly go to service.
I'm playing a plain vanilla OpenTTD version 1.1.1.
Is this a bug or am I missing a feature?

Are the depots directly on the line that trains normally use?
There is a limit as to how far the pathfinder will look to find a depot.

Yes, the depots are near the stations (which are never too far apart) and sometimes along the track.
What I'm seeing is that trains pass nearby a depot but don't stop, they just continue to their next station, not caring about their reliability is 0%!
But now that I think about it... I'm pretty new to those path signals that I started to use extensively, even in front of depots... Maybe I have a clue now.

Path signals should not be in front of depots.

You might wanna Force the trains to go into Depot with an extra order

That would be a pain to do so for each train...Rieniehh wrote:You might wanna Force the trains to go into Depot with an extra order
I just learnt something new about path signals, anyway. I just used to place one in front of depots, facing the depot itself.
They work like magic when it comes to block section, and my depots are often placed near stations.
I didn't care about the fact that they were facing the opposite way of a train that wants to enter the depot, because path signals can be crossed like that, but I didn't consider that the path finder penalizes paths through path signals placed in the "wrong" way, and this lead to my trains to never find a path to depots for service.
They could go to depots if ordered to, though. It seems that service isn't "strong" enough as a stimulus to cross path signals the other way around.

Depots already have a path signal built in. You don't need to add and extra signal.

Also, check if you've accidentaly disabled servicing in the advanced menu.

That would be crazy No, of course I haven't, even though I've checked just to be sure.Voyager One wrote:Also, check if you've accidentaly disabled servicing in the advanced menu.
The issue is solved now, I wrote 200 times "I won't put a path signal in front of depots" on the blackboard (hell yeah I did...).

Re: Trains don't go to service?
You could do a "forced depot" station layout, change the settings so the trains can only flip at the end of the line then put the depots behind the stations so they have to go there to turn around. Then you don't have to deal with the orders, though I give them that order by default myself.
