I haven't played OTTD in ages, felt like getting my train fix on again last night and installed it via PlayDeb, for Ubuntu 12.10.

All was fine, until I started adding some of my favourite NewGRFs via the in-game GRF Manager. I realized I had no cattle cars available for my NARS trains!

I did a bit of turning NewGRFs off and on this evening, and it seems to be the North American Renewal Set (NARS) 2.03 plus eGRVTS v2.0 r181 combination that is causing the issues. Just NARS by itself has cattle cars; just eGRVTS2 by itself has cattle cars on the default (boring) trains, but the two in combo mean no way to put cows on trains.

So, the relevant data summed up:
Ubuntu 12.10
OTTD 1.2.2
NARS 2.03
eGRVTS v2.0-r181
No cows on trains!

Anyone else run into this an know of a workaround or fix? I'm currently running the stock trains + eGRVTS, because trams are awesome, but I want cool NARS 2 trains back...

OK, this got resoundingly ignored when I posted it back in October... and it's still happening.

I just installed OTTD 1.2.3 for Ubuntu 12.10, after nuking my entire previous install of OTTD 1.2.2 and it's accompanying .ottd file - so all my customized settings, saved games and previously downloaded GRFs are nuked. This was an entirely clean install.

Basic set of vehicles have cattle cars.

NARS (still 2.0.3) does NOT. None of the default train cars for NARS have the option to convert them for use with cattle either - I've just checked them all.

What the heck is going on? Someone else must have run into this before, NARS has been around forever (and is awesome) and Ubuntu 12.10 is hardly an obscure choice of operating system these days.

Help? Someone?

Works for me. Maybe you should provide a savegame.

The weird thing is that I started this game in 1925 and HAD cattle cars; previous attempts had used the OTTD default of 1950 and been cattle car-less... but by 1928 in this game I was once again cattle car-less...

You're right. Cattle cars have disappeared. No idea why...

You can get them back by doing the following...

Go into cheat mode and reset the date to say 1900
go into the console and type resetengines
reset the date to 1928 (or leave it at 1900 if you like.)

See how that goes.

Now I just have to bookmark this thread so I know the "fix" for the next OTTD game I start.

I've seen this too, and I also use eGRVS.

The cattle car you see is the early version from about the 1850s-ish. The one that disappears is the 20th century version. NARS2 considers these two to be separate.

I started a game in 1830, got well into it, then no cattle cars. Was pretty upset!

Sorry to necropost, but I have the same problem: the old Livestock Car disappeared, but I see no Modern Livestock Car in the list: NARS 2.03, year 1971.

I read across the forum and IRC chats, but I still do not understand if the Car has been removed after some year due to realism, or if I have a bug in my game.

I know that with 2.51 the Livestock Car will be available, problem is that I would like not to trash my current game, if possible
