4 aspect signals, and other signals

Not sure if there's another topic about this somewhere but my google-fu is crappy these days

Was wondering what the point of the 4 aspect color lights and the LQU or whatever they were, them fancy ones. What do they do vs the regular 3 position signals?

Pretty sure they show the status of the block section ahead of the next.

Usually signals with 4 or more colour lights usually near junctions where a train might need to switch to a different track.

Do you understand the actual signalling? Green line clear to next signal which could be at caution. Orange or Green over red is caution warning driver the signal ahead could be at stop or train will be switching to a different track at next signal.

Some signals show 2 reds in case one light fails the other will still show red. Both reds will go out when the signal is green or orange. If all lights are out and to later for driver to slow his train and be prepared to stop at any obstacle.

Some signals if show red and driver unable to contract the signal person who controls that signal train waits 1 minute and proceed with caution and be prepared to stop at any obstacles.

Hope that helps. If not see if you can show as a image of the signal your talking about.

Classic four aspect in the Uk works differently
Green aspect, proceed
Double amber, proceed but with caution as a flashing double amber aspect is used to indicate the status of an approaching junction and can also be shown with feather indicators to inform the driver of the direction of the switch
Amber, proceed but with caution and be prepared to stop at the next signal
Red, immediate stop do not proceed or a SPAD procedure will be instigated.

The only aspect on the UK system that uses a double is the amber we do not use double red etc, they can also be repeated by banner repeaters or hooded aspects for a locatuion where the oncoming signal must only be seen by the driver of the train that is approaching it.

The puprose is to provide suficient separation due to varying train speeds and weights to allow the driver of a training following another one sufficient space to slow down and come to a stop if they get too close to the one in front thus signal aspects can be fluid.

4 Aspect is used where traffic density requires you to be able to control train speeds over a line section you will have trains travelling in close proximity as the extra aspect enables you to avoid the classic amber and red approach pattern and add the double amber thus insitituing an extra section.

And within lomo you only have 4 aspect as an add in if I recall rightly anyway games only have a three aspect colour light as a default option.
