TTO on virtual machine

Post by FunMaker »

Hi at first ;)

I read the Threads about "TTO doesn't run on XP/2K".

What is about a virtual machine (VMWare or something else) installed on an XP/2K System with a 98/95/ME Clientsystem - has anyone experiences with this?

TTO does not work on winxp/2000 and it will not without the windows source

A VM can simulate a system that is compatible but does not actually make the system itself compatible

No i have no experience you might to try a DOS emulator though

TTO should work on something like Virtual PC or VMWare, as long as the OS you install on there is based on DOS (ie, DOS itself, Windows 9x or Me).

TTO won't work in VMWare, because VMWare doesn not emulate a VESA compatible graphics chip. It's possible to start the setup-program from Win95 on VMWare, but it displays incorrectlyt and is impossible to use.

I've tried Virtual PC, and it actually works good, not to mention on a 2,4Ghz :). But never tried it on VMWare...however, if VMWare doesn't emulate VESA, then it'll never work.

I still recommend a multi-boot, since this has a number of advantages over an emulator, like using your real hardware, which is running at full speed obvious, although not really applicable for TTO...

No, it's not.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

try DOSbox, it works perfectly, just get a frontend for it (listed on the site) and you are away :)

Will prove what, exactly? I see exactly one instance of DOS on that page:
History of Microsoft Windows
MS-DOS–based: 1.0 • 2.0 • 3.0 • 3.1x • 95 • 98 • Me
Which is followed quite promptly by:
NT-based: NT 3.1 • NT 3.5 • NT 3.51 • NT 4.0 • 2000 • XP • Server 2003
To me, this implies that that which is NT-based is by definition not DOS-based.

I also like the assertion that Vista is forthcoming. Are they promoting the "Never install an even-numbered service pack. Including zero." theology?
